Emmanuel College is looking for a self-motivated and engaged individual to lead our Science Faculty in the Senior School.

The candidate requires current teaching registration with the Queensland College of Teachers. Experience teaching in the Queensland Senior Curriculum, including Senior Science and Psychology, is also required.

The Senior School caters for over 850 students in Years 7-12 and has a dynamic Science Faculty that provides a comprehensive, engaging and relevant curriculum with the following subjects: Junior Science (Years 7-10), Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology and Marine Science (Years

Our passionate and dedicated Science Faculty comprises:


•    Dean of Faculty 

•    Senior Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Marine Science Teachers 

•    Psychology Teachers

•    Junior Science Teachers. 

•    A Lab Manager and a Lab Assistant servicing six laboratories.

The role will be Full Time Permanent with a commencement date of 1st January, 2026.

Position Description

Position Overview

The purpose of this position is to provide academic and operational leadership for the Science and Psychology disciplines across years 7-12. The position is responsible for driving academic excellence, ensuring the delivery of high quality teaching, and fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration and engagement within the faculty. Through the design and implementation of high-quality, engaging and evidence-based curriculum and pedagogy, the Dean ensures that all teaching and learning within the faculty meets curriculum standards and inspires students to develop curiosity, critical thinking and a passion for scientific enquiry.

Accountability & Reporting Lines

This position reports directly to the Director of Studies – Learning and Teaching and ultimately to the Principal.

Direct reports include Teachers, Subject Coordinators and the Laboratory Manager.

Occupational Requirements & Qualifications

The Dean of Science Faculty must have:


•    Current QCT Registration

•    Met the requirements of the QCT and AITSL standards

•    Experience teaching Science and Psychology in a subjects in a Senior School setting.

Skills & Competencies

The successful applicant must:

•    Have an understanding of the philosophy of Christian Education and ability to translate it into practice in the classroom, playground, office and staffroom. 

•    High level of inter-relational skills, including communication skills and ability to motivate and inspire students, develop good working relations with parents and work as a member of a team.

•    Demonstrate an understanding of current educational trends.

•    Ability to plan (and regularly evaluate) an interesting, sequential, developmental and enjoyable teaching program.

•    Using a variety of teaching and discipline strategies establish and maintain positive and consistent classroom management, referring children with learning difficulties to the Learning Support Department.

•    Exhibit diligence and commitment to all aspects of employment including areas such as professional presentation and behaviour, observing confidentiality expectations, approach to and completion of tasks within required timeframes.

•    Be competent in the use of Microsoft Office products, together with any other software, hardware and technology in common use throughout the College.

•    Commitment to ongoing personal growth and development and a willingness to learn, including in areas of information technology.

•    Be familiar with and meet expectation of all College policies including Work Health & Safety, Employment Policy, Child Protection Policy etc published on the College intranet.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Classroom Management

•    Be responsible for the education, care and discipline of the children within each allocated class.

•    Know, plan, program and teach the school's curriculum at the appropriate standards for each year level.

•    Maintain an orderly, well-presented and inviting learning environment.

Pastoral Care

•    Be responsible for the nurture of the children within each allocated class.

Pedagogy

•    Implement the school's Christian philosophy in the classroom and other aspects of school life in a natural spontaneous way that will foster faith.

•    Maintain a high standard of work in the classroom, including comprehensive evaluation and assessment of the children's progress, and competent frequent correction of student work, in keeping with standards set down for your year levels / classes.

•    Maintain accurate, comprehensive and current assessment records to support the process of reporting to parents in written form and verbally, both at designated reporting times and at occasional parent-teacher interviews.

•    Effectively establish and carry out student assessment and reporting procedures in line with the College's requirements (including preparation of QCAA submissions for Senior School teachers).

•    Be willing to engage in a Professional Learning Team and participate in Peer Coaching.

Development – Professional and Other

•    Demonstrate a willingness to contribute to the spiritual growth and fellowship of the Emmanuel community

•    Comply with all College policies and QCT/AITSL Professional Standards

•    Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing personal growth and professional development, including in information technology, by diligently undertaking courses and learning opportunities provided or required by the College, as well as through personal initiative.

Co-Curricular Involvement

•    Actively contribute to the school's co-curricular program, including participation in out-of-school hours coaching of sport teams

•    Participate in activities, camps, excursions and events that contribute to the student experience

•    Attend in-service courses and out of hours school functions as required by the College.

Other Responsibilities

•    Regularly attend Staff Devotions, Worship and Chapel Services, including the Principal's Briefings

•    Attend staff meetings, Parent/Teacher Meetings and interviews

•    Maintain confidentiality of school matters

•    Be aware of and adhere to the requirements of the Child Protection Policy, College Work Health & Safety and other College policies and procedures as found on Schoolbox (the College intranet)

•    Perform all other reasonable duties in line with this role as directed from time to time.
