About the Role

Reporting to the Program Lead, this full-time position is based at our South East Regional Office in Bangholme. This role will be working across the Brighton, Bayside, Port Melbourne, Greater Dandenong and Knox. A Coxswain's Accreditation and experience is required and essential for the success of this role.

An operational vehicle will be provided. As the Leading Hand you will be responsible for inspecting and maintaining functionality of waterways and drainage assets, litter collection, minor civil maintenance tasks such and minor fence repairs, data collection and coordination of works. As a frontline leader you will have one direct report and primarily work in a crew of two. Additionally, you will operate a small boat and non-motorised barge to navigate, transport and deliver beach and jetty maintenance works within Patterson Lakes. You will take care of your own and colleagues Health and Safety through identification and controlling of hazards, and actively contributing to our generative safety culture.

About you:
  • Demonstrated experience and capabilities working with and leading crews in a Civil, NRM and/or Land Management, grass management, construction/maintenance environment.
  • Demonstrated experience operating plant and/ or equipment to undertake grass management and civil maintenance with relevant certificate of competency
  • Certificate/ Diploma in Civil/Environmental disciplines or relevant related work experience
  • Other qualifications such as Industry White Card, Chainsaw Ticket, Confined Space Entry, Fall Prevention, Plant Machinery competency, etc.
  • Ability to take responsibility for own role in ensuring the safety of all team members and other personnel on site
  • Problem solving skills, including the ability to deliver the appropriate outcomes
  • Sound interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of people both within Melbourne Water, external organisations and with the general public
  • Ability to work and contribute in a team environment to improve processes, respond to various demands and manage multiple activities simultaneously
  • Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations
  • Valid Victorian Driver's License
  • Coxswain Accreditation and experience operating a small vessel
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and Criminal Record Check
