The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager Mental Health and Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB), the FIFO-Social Worker will provide culturally appropriate trauma informed, person & family centred support to individuals and communities across the Ngaanyatjarra Lands.
In this role you will support Yarnangu people who may face barriers accessing health services or participating in activities that promote wellbeing. You'll play a vital part in helping clients strengthen their social and emotional wellbeing by linking them to existing services, supports, and community programs that enhance health outcomes.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team you will manage a small caseload using an assertive outreach model, engage in community awareness initiatives, and advocate for clients in a culturally respectful way. You'll also have the opportunity to build capacity within communities by mentoring Yarnangu employees, supporting colleagues, and working collaboratively with other service providers to develop community-led solutions.
This is a permanent role with a flexible FIFO roster dependent on the suitable applicants current location.
About You:
- Tertiary qualification in Social Work and eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
- Experience in delivering therapeutic interventions and a holistic, client-centred model of care.
- Strong analytical and assessment skills, with the ability to quickly establish effective therapeutic relationships with clients, families, and colleagues.
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal cultures, Aboriginal Health, and primary health care, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Highly developed interpersonal, communication, liaison, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Proficient in computer use, report writing, data management, project evaluation, and applying quality improvement processes.
- Well-developed organisational skills, with flexibility, adaptability, and innovation in achieving objectives.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement and coordinating wrap-around services and case management.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly by road and light aircraft to remote locations.
- Current manual driver's licence and ability to drive a 4WD on long unsealed roads.
- Knowledge of legislative obligations for Equal Opportunity, Disability Services, and Work Health and Safety, with the ability to incorporate inclusive practices.
Desirable:
- Experience in rural or remote service delivery within the Health Sector.
- Knowledge or experience with National Disability Insurance Services (NDIS).

Home to approximately 2000 Yarnangu (Ngaanyatjarra people) across 11 unique communities, our council is dedicated to preserving and celebrating our rich heritage spanning over 10,000 years and 250,000 square kilometres.
Established in 1981, the Ngaanyatjarra Council Group (NCG) represents the interests of the Ngaanyatjarra People across the 11 communities in the Central Desert region of Western Australia. Employing in excess of 450 people, NCG provides a wide range of services, including health, utilities, construction, employment, community development, shops, roadhouses, art centres and land services. It is one of the largest and most successful Indigenous organisations in the country.
