Summary:

The Carpenter will be responsible for constructing, repairing, and installing building frameworks and structures, such as forts, decking, pergolas, and roofs using materials such as wood, steel, concrete, and composites. The Carpenter will also work with other tradespeople to ensure that project deadlines are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Studying drawings and specifications to determine materials required, dimensions and installation procedures
  • Ordering and selecting timbers and materials, and preparing layouts
  • Cutting materials, and assembling and nailing cut and shaped parts
  • Erecting framework, panelised systems and roof framing, laying sub-flooring and floorboards and verifying trueness of structuresN
  • Nailing fascia panels, sheathing roofs, and fitting exterior wall cladding and door and window frames
  • Assembling prepared wood to form structures and fittings ready to install
  • cutting wood joints
  • May construct concrete formwork
  • May repair existing fittings
  • May work with plastic laminates, perspex and metal
  • Complete all tasks in compliance with relevant safety regulations and quality standards
  • Collaborate with other team members to plan and execute construction activities
  • Train and supervise apprentices

Qualifications:

  • Certificate 3 in carpentry or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience as a Carpenter
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to operate power tools and machinery safely and effectively
  • Physically fit and able to lift up to 25 kg
  • Push &/ Pull loads with lifting mechanisms
  • Stand for long periods of time
  • Achieve 20/20 vision (with glasses is acceptable)
  • Hold power tools with hands with arms extended for long durations (with adequate breaks)
  • Hold a Blue Card or equivalent across all States and Territories of Australia
  • Maintain a clear National Police Check at all times
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations
