Schedule: Expected to work on 7.6hr shifts, Monday to Friday between the hours 06:00 and 18:00 with occasional overtime and out-of-usual hours may be required based on operational needs

About the role

We are seeking a tertiary qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist (or equivalent) to work in the QML Pathology Central laboratory with the below responsibilities:

• Perform routine diagnostic LCMS (liquid chromatography Mass Spectrometry) assays using manual processes and automated equipment while adhering to documented procedures
• Performing all routine procedures from point of specimen reception to execution of results for Pathological diagnosis, including specimen dissection
• Assisting with Stock Control
• Compliance with records maintenance and recording of results in line with protocols
• Maintaining all equipment and operating equipment in line with protocols
• Maintaining current scientific knowledge
• Participation in both routine and audit related Quality Assurance activities
• Contributing to continuous improvement and the development of new assays as required
• Participating in training staff
• Liaising with internal and/ or external stakeholders (referring practitioners) regarding test results or referrals as necessary
• Compliance and adherence with Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes.

About you

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:

• Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent
• Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise and skills within the respective discipline
• Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting
• Sound semi automated pipetting skills
• Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification
• Perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision and exceptional attention to detail
• An outstanding commitment to quality and excellence
• A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures
• A positive attitude toward achieving outcomes and being a cohesive, contributing team member
• Strong time management, interpersonal, communication (written and verbal)and organisational skills
• The ability to cope and thrive in a busy environment
• Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
• This role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department specific vaccine preventative diseases
• Preferably, prior work experience in pathology or equivalent high-through put environment with fast TAT
