About You

RMIT is seeking a dynamic leader to join our International Portfolio as Associate Director, Asia Impact. This pivotal role oversees the Melbourne-based activities of the Australia Vietnam Policy Institute, manages a strategic partnership with Asia Society Australia, and drives high-impact initiatives through the RMIT Asia Hub, including executive education, government engagement, and public events. With a team of around 8, the role is hands-on and delivery-focused, requiring close collaboration with our Hanoi-based colleagues and external partners across government and industry.

We're looking for a confident and collaborative leader who thrives in complex stakeholder environments and brings a calm, emotionally intelligent approach to team leadership. The ideal candidate will have experience working across government or industry sectors, ideally with international exposure in public policy or government relations. Strong stakeholder engagement skills and cultural intelligence are essential, as the role involves advancing RMIT's strategic presence across Asia and working closely with global partners.

To be successful in this position, you'll have:

  • Proven leadership ability, including experience in motivating, influencing and empowering others to achieve exceptional results and engaging effectively as a team.
  • High-level interpersonal and communication skills, including the capacity to collaborate, negotiate, build and maintain effective and productive relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to deliver strategic projects, managing stakeholder expectations, project teams, grant milestones, budgets, timeframes and government reporting.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical ability on strategic and operational matters, including the ability to identify and implement practical and innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, including an ability to convey complex information, ideas and concepts clearly and efficiently to a variety of different audiences at different levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategy development and implementation to maximise impact.
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills with a proven ability to work autonomously, plan and deliver within tight timeframes and manage competing priorities in a complex and dynamic environment.
