About the Role
We're looking for an experienced and motivated Skipper to operate our new 12m tourism vessel based in Townsville. This vessel conducts guided boat tours around Magnetic Island, featuring stunning coastal scenery, snorkeling locations, and natural experiences such as short island walks.
The role is hands-on and suited to an all-rounder who's confident managing both the vessel and crew, engaging directly with guests, and ensuring every tour is delivered safely, smoothly, and with genuine enthusiasm.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely skipper and operate the 12m mono-hull tourism vessel on scheduled tours and private charters.
- Conduct guided boat tours around Magnetic Island, sharing engaging commentary about the island's history, culture, environment, and marine life.
- Oversee crew, ensuring all operations are run safely and efficiently.
Skills & Experience
- Current Coxswain Grade 1 or higher.
- Valid Marine Radio Operator's Certificate of Proficiency.
- First Aid & CPR certification (current).
- Demonstrated experience skippering similar commercial passenger vessels.
- Confident vessel handling and navigation skills in coastal and reef environments.
- Deliver comprehensive safety briefings and maintain a high level of professionalism at all times.
- Manage guest interaction and satisfaction, creating a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all.
- Supervise snorkeling and island activities, ensuring safety standards and environmental best practices are upheld.
- Liaise and report to the Manager regarding operational matters, scheduling, maintenance needs, and safety issues.
- Monitor the vessel's condition, fuel, equipment, and safety gear, and report or coordinate maintenance as needed.
- Ensure compliance with the AMSA, MSQ, and company Safety Management System (SMS).
- Support general site and operational duties where needed to ensure business continuity.
Skills & Experience
- Current Coxswain Grade 1 or higher.

- Confident vessel handling and navigation skills in coastal and reef environments.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to guide and motivate staff.
- Excellent customer service and guest engagement abilities.
- Maintenance experience or mechanical aptitude is highly advantageous.
- Good physical fitness and comfort working outdoors in marine environments.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $36.00 – $43.00 per hour
