When grazing or moving stock around the state, graziers can use a network of parcels of Crown land called travelling stock reserves (TSR). TSR's include stock routes, which are corridors (ranging from 60 metres to almost two kilometres wide) that connect reserves and watering points, generally spaced 10 to 20 kilometres apart (based on a day's walk for cattle or sheep).

The total TSR network in NSW covers almost two million hectares, and Local Land Services is responsible for the care, control and management of about 30% of TSRs in NSW, covering about 530,000 hectares.

About the Role

Our Travelling Stock Reserves Ranger's (LSO) are responsible for delivering on the ground services, projects and activities for the management, care and maintenance of travelling stock reserves in the Central West region.

This includes

  • the planning and issue of permits for grazing and walking stock as well as other uses,
  • monitoring and compliance, as well as undertaking regulatory duties.
  • planning and implementing onground management activities such as
    • upgrades and maintenance of infrastructure such as fencing and water points,
    • weed and pest management,

About You

We are looking for a person with a passion for land management. Someone who understands rural issues, livestock and plant health and the current approaches to managing travelling stock reserves. You'll be able to plan and implement on ground projects including managing contractors and Senior Field Officers, and be comfortable speaking and negotiating with landholders, drovers, clients and stakeholders.

You will be self-motivated and be able to work independently as well as being a supportive and active team member, contributing to decision making and planning. Strong computer skills are also necessary to fulfil reporting requirements.

A current NSW Driver Licence, the capacity and willingness to undertake 4WD training course and appropriate qualifications and knowledge relevant to pesticide application are also a must for this role.
