About the role:

The Locomotive Monitoring Center (LMC) Engineer is tasked with remotely monitoring and diagnosing locomotive issues using a variety of diagnostic and real-time monitoring tools. This role involves developing and providing recommended troubleshooting and repair work scopes.

Job tasks and responsibilities:

  • Works with various rail line services – both domestic and international – to remotely diagnose and troubleshoot locomotive issues
  • Remotely monitor locomotive fault codes and provide remote assistance with diagnosis and troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical systems of locomotives.
  • Create focused troubleshooting procedures based on issues observed while monitoring locomotives.
  • Communicate troubleshooting procedures to internal and external customers.
  • Utilise internal and external Remote Monitoring & Diagnostic (RM&D) or Predictive Maintenance tools such as IntelliTrain/Uptime, Locomotive Tracking System (LTS), and customers' systems.
  • Coordinate and consult with a variety of departments, such as design engineering, reliability, field service and contract maintenance to gather information to address locomotive failures.
  • Work with data scientists to support the development of diagnostic and predictive maintenance models.
  • Participate in customer conference calls to provide daily troubleshooting feedback and monthly performance reports.

About you:

  • Prefer experience with EMD locomotives
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software
  • Medium level of oral and written communications skills
  • Medium level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with customers and workforce
  • Strong analytical aptitude where problems are complex
  • Medium level of mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and electrical schematics
  • Knowledge of fundamental inspection, reliability procedures, and processes
  • Proficiency troubleshooting locomotive problems
  • Knowledge of locomotive shop practices
  • Willingness/ability to relocate as necessary
  • Ability to work as part of a multi shift seven (7) day a week operation
  • Knowledge of locomotive database information
