About Us
Genuity is a dynamic organisation, committed to excellence and innovation in the Energy sector. One of our core values is "Energy for Life," reflecting our dedication as an owner, operator, and retailer of energy, and fostering an environment where team members maintain a healthy balance between work and life.
About the Role
We're looking for a skilled, confident lawyer with 4+ years of post-qualification experience to join our inhouse team at our Brisbane City Office, as a Corporate Counsel on a
part-time, contract basis.
This role is responsible for providing in-house legal services and compliance oversight across Genuity's business. You'll work closely with senior leaders and external counsel on a wide range of corporate and commercial matters, including contract drafting and negotiation, regulatory compliance, and strategic projects.
We're a smaller corporate team, so this role suits someone practical, commercially astute, and willing to roll up their sleeves. You'll have autonomy, variety, and the opportunity to make a real impact in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and support on corporate and commercial matters, including contract interpretation, drafting, and negotiation.
- Assist business units with day-to-day legal and compliance issues, including regulatory obligations and risk management.
- Draft and negotiate project documents such as fuel purchase agreements, electricity trading agreements, equipment and services contracts, and financing agreements.
- Coordinate and manage external legal counsel as required.
- Support strategic initiatives, including M&A, financing, and asset transfers.
- Liaise with stakeholders on legal and commercial issues.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, corporate governance standards, and internal policies.
- Contribute to a strong culture of ethics, compliance, and safety across the business.
Requirements
Essential:
- Bachelor of Laws degree (post-graduate qualifications or additional degrees such as Commerce preferred).
- At least four (4) years post-admission legal experience.
- Strong experience in contract law, corporate governance, and relevant legislation (e.g., Corporations Act, ASIC requirements).
- Demonstrated experience in projects, corporate M&A, energy and resources, or finance law.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously, exercise initiative, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable:
- Experience in the energy or infrastructure sector.
- Exposure to competition and consumer law.
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to partner with business leaders.
Why Join Us?
This is more than a legal role—it's an opportunity to be part of a company that powers "Energy for Life" by creating clever solutions for a sustainable future. At Genuity, you'll work on diverse projects, build valuable industry knowledge, and directly contribute to our success. We offer a competitive package and a range of benefits that support health and wellbeing.
Application Process
If you have the expertise and passion for energy, we want you on board. Apply now and be part of our mission to achieve optimal performance with environmental, social, and governance
responsibility.
Please submit your resume and a cover letter detailing your relevant experience. If you have not been contacted, you will not have been successful.
