The Opportunity
Come and discover the opportunity to join our Hot Mills lead team at our Port Kembla Manufacturing as the Engineering Manager Hot Rolling Mills. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.
We're hiring this role due an exciting internal move by our previous Engineering Manager. This is a diverse environment to continue your Engineering leadership career
Your team spans Electrical, Mechanical, Process, Process Computing and Strategic Projects professionals. Under your guidance they work with Hot Mills Operational and Asset teams to deliver specialised engineering advice, solutions and capital project execution.
Both planned and unplanned activities are part of this dynamic environment not to mention a varying range of equipment and assets including robotics.
What Will You Do?
You won't achieve all this on your own. Leading your high-performing team and collaborating with individuals across, Operations, Asset Management and central Project and Digital Transformation teams, you will:
- maximise business efficiency, productivity and cost effectiveness: contribute to the development and implementation of the Hot Mills business plan and manage the Engineering budget including Capex budget forecast
- Capex strategy development and project execution: create business cases for, and directly manage, the delivery of brownfield capital projects as well as partner with the centralised Project team for specific capital projects
- enable your high-performing team: continue to engage, develop and inspire your team – and translate objectives and changing priorities into clear resourcing solutions, activities and deliverables
- prioritise talent capability and succession plan: focus on talent retention, ongoing upskilling, training and professional development
- lead safety and governance: ensure processes and systems are in place and followed to keep our people safe and comply with legislation, regulations and business policy
- provide expert Engineering advice: lead and deliver specialist recommendations for engineering improvement and solutions across Hot Mills – spanning product, processes and projects
- stay current on new technologies and trends: monitor your field for new or updated practices, technologies and capabilities e.g. automation and digital
More About You
With a commitment to the safety and well-being of others and demonstrated leadership of a high-performing team, you will bring:
- a degree in engineering (e.g. Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanical)
- proficiency in developing and managing Capex budgets
- experience managing brownfield capital projects where business-as-usual operations continued to run concurrently
- an ability to build constructive partnerships with others to deliver joint outcomes
- good communication and influencing skills to navigate others through changing priorities
- an interest in engineering technology advancements e.g. automation and digital
