About the Opportunity
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate to join our Queensland team in our Brisbane Office as Contracts Administrator. Working across a diverse range of projects, you will provide financial oversight and support successful delivery throughout the project life cycle. Leveraging your strong organisational skills, financial analysis expertise, and construction industry knowledge, you will provide accurate and timely financial reporting information to Project Leaders and Directors, and external stakeholders. Your insights will play a key role in ensuring projects remain on track and within budget.
Bringing well developed communication and interpersonal skills, you will build trusted external relationships role modelling Slattery values and behaviours in your day-to-day interactions. Reporting to a senior leader, you will collaborate on projects within your home state and across Slattery's national business.
Key responsibilities include:
Budget and Cost Management
Support the Project Director and client in establishing the budget framework.
Create the cost breakdown structure (e.g. preliminaries, trades, professional fees, contingency, client direct expenses) for detailed tracking.
Develop a projected expenditure timeline aligned with the construction schedule.
Regularly update cost forecasts and detailed cost estimates.
Contract Management
- Review and certify progress claims including:
o Verifying work completed by conducting site visits, gaining consultant input, and measurement and quantification.
o Conducting a financial assessment including the valuation of work, retention and deductions and variation integration.
- Coordination of variations including:
o Ensure all variation requests initiated by the contractor, client or consultant are formally submitted with sufficient detail.
o Assessment and analysis of the financial impact of the variation.
o Ensure the variation complies with contract provisions.
o Coordinate approval and communication on the variation with the client, contractor and consultants.
Cost Reporting
- Provision of project cost performance reports to the Project Director and client on a monthly or milestone basis that include:
o Budget vs. Actual comparison
o Forecast to completion
o Summary of approved and pending variations
o Cash flow status
o Risk and contingency usage
- Use of visual aids to present data clearly and intuitively and inclusion of narrative commentary in reports to explain cost deviations, emerging risks, and recommended actions.
Risk Management
- Analyse risks including:
o Forecasting final cost: Estimate the total cost at completion based on current trends, known risks, and anticipated changes.
o Contingency management: tracking the usage of contingency funds and assess adequacy for remaining project scope.
o Early warning indicators: highlight potential cost overruns or savings opportunities to enable proactive decision-making.
What does the right person look like?
Proven experience managing post contract lifecycle activities including but not limited to progress claims, variations and cost reporting.
Prior experience gained in a financial analysis position managing budgets, cash flows and budget performance.
Knowledge of the Queensland construction industry and Aviation sector desirable.
Understanding of Australian construction codes and standards.
Base Salary from $77k to $85k AUD depending on experience.
Ability to analyse project budgets, expenses and variances with a strong numerical aptitude.
Strong communication and active listening capabilities coupled with good interpersonal skills.
Solid organisational and planning skills partnered with the ability to meet deadlines
Ability to apply commercial awareness to projects and effectively manage costs to maintain profitability.
High level of analytical capability with an aptitude for critical thinking.
Proactive, adaptable and highly motivated with a keen eye for detail.
Ability to develop trusted relationships with contractors, clients and consultants bringing a solution orientated approach.
Self-motivated with a willingness to engage with feedback, learn and develop.
Tertiary qualifications required in quantity surveying, construction management, finance, or project management.
Professional membership of RICS or AIQS accreditation desirable.
Proficient experience in Microsoft Office Suite and CostX estimating software.
Current drivers' license preferred.
