Where the team fits in

The Senior Engineer (UI) role sits within the Video Squad, a key part of the Listing, Visualisation & Content business unit. Our mission is to elevate video to be a first-class citizen across all REA experiences, creating engaging and personalised content for millions of consumers. We are embarking on an exciting journey to build new strategic video capabilities from the ground up, transforming how users interact with property content.

As this is a newly formed team, you will have a unique opportunity to shape our technical direction from the very beginning. There will be plenty of scope to experiment with new technologies, build foundational systems, and define best practices. We are a team that values learning as we build, moving quickly to deliver impact while embracing the challenges that come with greenfield development.

What the role is all about

As a Senior UI Engineer in our new Video Platform Squad, you'll help design and build web products from the ground up. You'll work closely with product, design, and engineering teams to turn ideas into features that improve how millions of people engage with property content. This is a hands-on coding role in a collaborative environment, with opportunities to shape our technical approach, mentor teammates, and deliver high-quality solutions quickly. Day to day you'll be doing:

• Writing, testing, and documenting code according to REA Engineering standards and practices.
• Contributing to initiatives with a strategic focus and value and leading epics.
• Providing expertise and specialized knowledge in one or more core technical competencies.
• Solving complex technical problems in ways that enable other team members to learn and extend.
• Supporting the Engineering Manager in setting the technical direction and practices and upskilling the team's capabilities.
• Connecting with developers across the team facing similar technical challenges to connect solution architecture with broader tech strategy.
• Working with stakeholders to design high-quality solutions that meet the needs of our users.
• Maintaining existing products, including bug fixes and "Business As Usual" feature enhancements.
• Supporting production systems, including being part of the Day Pager Primary roster.

Who we're looking for

• Extensive experience in UI software development, with deep expertise in web applications.
• Proven ability to design, build, and maintain high-performance, scalable web applications, APIs, and supporting services.
• While web is your core strength, you have the flexibility to work across the stack when needed, supporting integrations, backend services, and delivery pipelines.
• Experience delivering significant product features end-to-end—from shaping technical requirements through to deployment and ongoing optimisation.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, able to work effectively with cross-functional teams and translate complex technical concepts into clear plans.
• Comfortable working in an agile, fast-paced environment, with a focus on quality, maintainability, and user experience.
• Track record of diagnosing and resolving critical production issues swiftly and effectively.
• Commitment to the "you build it, you run it" philosophy—owning code from development into production and ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of your apps.
• Practical experience integrating with and supporting systems in AWS, GCP, or similar cloud platforms.
• Strong knowledge of designing and implementing solutions that scale for large, active user bases.
• Ability to participate in shaping longer-term web architecture and technical direction of the team, in partnership with senior peers and leadership.
