You're excited by opportunities to explore your potential and try something new.
You have the opportunity to gain a wealth of expertise and a diverse range of skills, providing insight and knowledge without losing sight of your work-life balance or wellbeing.
In this role, you'll:
Work with our specialised Track Engineering team within Network Maintenance at Sydney Trains to provide network-wide field technical support and advice in track geometry and turnout maintenance. Your focus will be on leading the application of predictive modelling that transforms track geometry and turnout condition data into clear, actionable maintenance insights.
You'll collaborate with data scientists and engineering stakeholders to ensure the model's outputs are practical, relevant, and aligned to maintenance planning. Using your technical knowledge, you'll guide how predictive insights are interpreted and applied to support early intervention strategies across the network, while maintaining compliance with engineering standards and the integrity of track assets.
You'll play a key role in engaging teams across the business, supporting adoption, building understanding, and helping integrate data-informed decision-making into day-to-day maintenance practices.
For more information on this position and business unit, view the role description and information pack.
About you
You're a qualified Civil or Mechanical Engineer or have substantial equivalent Engineering experience with specialist knowledge of track geometry, turnout systems, and rail maintenance practices. You have experience applying engineering standards, managing technical risk, and providing specialist advice within a rail environment, ideally in track maintenance, construction, or renewals.
You have strong analytical skills and experience working with large datasets to support predictive modelling and data-driven maintenance decisions. You are familiar with asset management systems and engineering software.
You've supported or led innovation and improvement initiatives and can apply predictive insights to support early intervention strategies and continuous improvement. You're confident engaging with stakeholders and frontline teams to support the adoption of new tools, systems, and practices within a complex operational environment.
This is a permanent full-time role based at the Rail Operations Centre in Alexandria, offering a unique opportunity to shape the future of rail maintenance. If you're ready to apply your expertise and make a meaningful impact on safety, efficiency, and asset performance across the Sydney Trains network, we'd love to hear from you.
