About the role
Applications are now open for a maternity leave backfill (12 months) as a Peer Navigator within our Wiyala Program . This is your chance to make a real difference supporting clients experiencing social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB) challenges in a culturally safe and community-focused way.
The role provides individualised, one-on-one support for clients experiencing low to moderate mental health impacts and social challenges that may affect daily life. Peer Navigators help clients build resilience, manage stressors, and connect with appropriate services and supports.
Client and Family Support
- Provide culturally appropriate one-on-one support to individuals and families.
- Offer care coordination for clients by connecting them with health, social, and cultural services.
- Support clients experiencing suicidal ideation or post-suicide care, including aftercare plans and referring to appropriate service for crisis response.
Community Engagement and Education
- Promote the Wiyala Program within schools, courts, health services and the wider community.
- Provide education around mental health, suicide prevention, and chronic disease impacts through a cultural lens.
SEWB Program Delivery
- Facilitate and support SEWB group activities, including cultural healing, yarning circles, NAIDOC events, and Mental Health Day initiatives.
- Ensure all group sessions are culturally safe and responsive to client needs.
About you
- Qualifications in Social Work, Community Services or demonstrated experience
- First Aid Certificate
- National Police Check
- Working with Children Check
- NSW Drivers License and reliable vehicle
Experience
- Previous experience in a similar role or within a related field is desirable
- Strong understanding of child protection, mental health issues and Suicidal Ideation and After Care.
- Experience working with Aboriginal communities and proven ability to collaborate with various community organisations and stakeholders
Prior to an offer of employment being made, candidates will be required to undertake relevant background checks including a Criminal History and Working with Children Check and demonstrate evidence of current registration, and original qualifications.
