Peer Support Worker
At Lives Lived Well, a not-for-profit organisation, we're looking for a Peer Support Worker to join our dynamic and high-performing team in Dubbo.
About our Service
Our multidisciplinary team of 10 staff provide free alcohol and other drug counselling, case management and support services to people aged 18 and up. We aim to provide our clients with a safe and comfortable environment to support them in developing their own road to recovery. You'll join a team that embraces a supportive and purpose-driven culture—promoting flexibility, nurturing professional growth, and cultivating strong relationships across the organisation.
About the Role
As a Peer Support Worker, you'll draw on your lived experience with substance use, treatment, and recovery to provide unique and invaluable support to others on their journey. You'll offer peer-to-peer support, recovery mentorship, and advocacy that's grounded in empathy and understanding—distinct from clinical care.
Your day might involve processing referrals, assisting walk-in clients with service entry, accompanying clients to appointments like Centrelink or GP visits, and building strong community connections to enhance referral pathways.
You'll also play a vital role in community engagement—whether it's attending events like NAIDOC Week, supporting community-based mental health initiatives, or joining other clinicians in on Outreach,
This is an contract part-time position (30 hours per week) with flexible hours, typically between 8am to 4pm. We're open to discussing a schedule that works best for you. The gross hourly pay rate ranges between $38-$40 per hour plus superannuation and salary packaging options and will be commensurate with the successful candidate's level of skills and experience.
What we are looking for
In this position you will share our passion and commitment to service delivery excellence, and bring the following skills and attributes:
- Lived experience relevant to the role and the ability to role-model and be relatable by appropriately sharing parts of your own journey and experiences
- Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in working considerately and non-judgmentally with people from diverse backgrounds, experiencing complex challenges
- Self-managing and able to work autonomously
- Active listening skills and the ability to lead and guide emotional conversations
- Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility – this is a newly created role with room to grow and evolve—perfect for someone who thrives in dynamic environments and embraces change.
- Strong relationship building skills - You'll need the ability to connect with a diverse range of stakeholders and build rapport quickly and authentically.
- Current Australian Drivers Licence and the ability to gain a Working With Children Check (Blue Card)
Willingness to travel locally for appointments and events
Having completed or nearing completion of a Certificate IV in AOD, Mental Health, Peer Support or other relevant qualification would be highly regarded.
Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to have a personal lived experience of substance dependence and or Mental ill-health, service use and recovery.
What matters most is that you'll live and breathe our values, which means:
- You are humble, human, and full of hope.
- You show up and share.
- You ask: Why not? And what's next?
You leave a positive wake.
Why work for us?
We do our best work through our values, and you'll be part of our values-driven culture. This role gives you a chance to be part of a genuinely engaged team. You will have all the support and training you may need, with regular one to ones with the Assistant CSM. You can see all our benefits on our website but some of them include:
- The opportunity to join the LLW Lived Experience workforce and participate in the growth of this workforce within the organisation.
- A team culture that values connection, innovation, and fun.
- An extra five paid leave days (pro rata for part time staff) per year to support your wellbeing and work-life balance.
- Salary packaging is available to increase your take home pay.
Fitness Passport membership access to a wide range of gyms, pools, and fitness and leisure centres across Australia, at a discounted rate
If you're ready to use your lived experience to make a difference, we'd love to hear from you
