About the Role
As the Associate Professor of Clinical Education and Interprofessional Learning, you will contribute towards the three domains of academic work within the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH): Teaching and Learning, and Service and Engagement and Research and Innovation, in line with the University of Newcastle Looking Ahead Strategic Plan 2020–2025.
You will make a significant contribution to all activities of the School of Medicine and Public Health, particularly in the fields of clinical education and interprofessional learning. You will provide the necessary leadership to deliver successful education programs and build on existing research strengths to promote productive research engagements nationally and internationally.
There will be strong links with academic educators and clinical colleagues at Joint Medical Program (JMP) teaching campuses including the Central Coast and Hunter Clinical Schools, the University of Newcastle Department of Rural Health and the University of New England. In this position, you will play a key academic leadership role within the JMP.
The successful applicant will be based at one of the JMP Clinical Schools and may be offered a Clinical Academic appointment with the Central Coast or Hunter New England Health Local Health District; if this is offered the successful applicant will be expected to deliver dedicated clinical contribution within their vocational specialty.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Fellowship of a professional Australian Medical College or equivalent;
- Registration, or potential for registration, with AHPRA;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Proven research track record in generating quality research outcomes which complement existing research fields in the School of Medicine and Public Health, with a focus on clinical education or other health-related field
- Demonstrated high level of clinical expertise and service contributions;
- Demonstrated ability to create and deliver innovative and engaging curriculum that meets accreditation standards while future proofing the skill set of medical graduands;
- Demonstrated capacity to develop strategic linkages in the areas of clinical education interprofessional learning, and vocational specialty.

The School of Medicine and Public Health is the largest of four Schools within the College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing. Its educational strengths include the Bachelor of Medical Science & Doctor of Medicine Joint Medical Program (JMP) and postgraduate programs in clinical medicine, traumatology and public health. The School works closely with the Hunter New England and Central Coast Local Health Districts to deliver and promote interprofessional learning and collaborative health research.
The 5-year Joint Medical Program is a unique partnership between the University of Newcastle, the University of New England and the Hunter New England and Central Coast Local Health Districts. The program provides an integrated problem-based learning curriculum with early and broad clinical experience alongside opportunities for research and longitudinal electives. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the program through teaching, participating in program leadership roles and undertaking innovative programs in medical education.
