St Joseph's is a Catholic College, founded in 1987, and situated in Katherine, approximately 3 hours south of Darwin. The College is a co-educational day school providing quality Catholic education from Transition to Year 12. We also offer education in our Early Learning Centre to children 3-5 years old. The College is set on 16 hectares with modern buildings and landscaped gardens.
The College has a vacancy for a permanent full-time Librarian catering for students in both primary and secondary. The role of the Librarian is to provide strategic, operational and managerial leadership over the library services across the school.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate catalogue of library resources using The Oliver Library system
- Liaise with classroom teachers to provide support materials & resources to aid in the teaching of the Australian Curriculum
- Source resources & develop priority ordering of resources within budget constraints (including teaching resources when required)
- Maintenance & repair of resources as required, including correspondence with students/families regarding lost/missing resources
- Act as the school administrator for a variety of online teaching platforms
- Co-ordinate activities involving students, staff & parents during Children's Book Week, culminating in Book Character Dress Up Day.
- Co-ordination of Scholastic Book Club throughout the year including ordering of student items.
- Coordination and running of yearly Scholastic Book Fair
- Provide a stimulating library environment through displays to co-ordinate with special events throughout the year, recognising the Catholic calendar, diversity of our school community and other world events.
- Maintain IT equipment including computer trolleys in collaboration with the school IT manager
- Work effectively with the library assistant, providing set and ad hoc tasks for completion as required
- Supervision of the senior students during their study lessons in the library, this includes but is not limited to wellbeing support and behaviour management.
- Ad hoc supervision of Senior class relief lessons, as coordinated and supported by the School Operations Manager.
- Maintain a clean and tidy library space
- Liaise with the school Maintenance manager for any library building maintenance requirements.
Essential Criteria:
- A commitment to working within the Catholic Ethos
- Ability to build positive relationships and effectively communicate with students and staff
- Current Ochre Card (or ability to obtain one)
- Competent computer skills using a range of programs and the ability to troubleshoot issues
- Excellent Organisational Skills and Time Management
- Work collaboratively with a team
- Demonstrate Leadership skills
- Ability to manage budgets and experience with resource management
- Some library or information management experience preferred
