About the role
HammondCare has a robust Capital Works program, and a growing minor works portfolio. In response, the Capital Works team has restructured to internal whole of project management with SME support.
The Architectural Technician will report to the Head of Design and support the preparation of client-side deliverables during the concept design phases of projects. The role will also support the team during design phases of capital works and minor works projects including residential aged care and health refurbishments; by preparing scopes of work, preparing schematic drawings, updating design standard documentation, and assisting project managers with gateway documentation.
This role is a permanent full-time position based at St Leonards with hybrid opportunities, flexibility to travel to HammondCare sites is required.

Key Responsibilities include
- Capture and document requirements as part of the project brief
- Develop preliminary designs and concept options
- Develop generic briefing documents including room data sheets, typical layouts, details and benchmarking checklists
- Develop drawings, specifications and construction documentation as required
- Prepare Gateway Documents as part of our Project Delivery Framework
- Ensure internal and external stakeholders are engaged and consulted on each project.
- Program and communicate the design phases on each project.
- Review and coordinate drawings and documents for cost effective and timely use in projects
- Manage the documentation and drawing review process ensuring all parties are familiar with the latest status of the design process
- Liaise with the internal Project Manager (and external builder where relevant) to develop tender documentation which is in alignment with cost and programme requirements
- Support Project Manager with RFI's during construction phase
- Ensure design development is undertaken in accordance with HammondCare's design principles
- Prepare Consultant Briefs and obtain fee proposals. Review proposals and execute consultancy agreements and Purchase orders for each phase of the project (as per project delivery framework)
- Manage the output of the project consultants to ensure design milestones are achieved.
- Review invoices for payment and code to appropriate cost center
- Oversee consultant budget for relevant minor works projects
- Research products and finishes with suppliers and manufacturers and liaise with industry specialists and other consultants to support and contribute towards the selection of the interior design elements and lighting, furniture, fittings and equipment.
- Consult with the Interior Designer to ensure and prepare Group 2 and Group 3 FFE schedules and ensure they are co-ordinated with construction documentation (ie. Items procured by HammondCare)
- Obtain necessary authority approvals and check design is compliant with building codes.
- Prepare reports on risk issues, including analysis of information and recommendations for the control of identified risks.
- Research new energy efficient products with suppliers and consultants, ensuring the organisation has the most up to date advice on sustainability initiatives within the industry
- Carry out post occupancy reviews and capturing feedback for use future projects including updating HammondCare Design Online website
- Updating the 'standards in practice' section of the Design Standards
- Support Project Managers with documentation for Draft Operational Design Manuals (DODM)
- Supporting project managers in preparing Design Review Meeting presentations for stakeholder approvals
About You
- Commitment to engage and align with HammondCare's Christian Mission, Motivation, and Mission in Action
- Minimum 5 years of experience in construction/fitout documentation, preferably in design, construction, or property sector
- Qualification in architecture (minimum Bachelors degree)
- Proficiency in architectural drafting and editing software (Sketchup, Bluebeam, Revit, Adobe creative suite)
- A mature knowledge of the construction industry and the design process
- Significant practical experience in communicating with diverse internal and external stakeholders
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong administrative, computer skills (excel and word) and report writing
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Empathy and patience
Desirable Experience:
- Aged Care or healthcare industry experience
- Experience in construction industry design documentation, interior or fitout projects
- Familiarity with planning legislation, and authority tracking in a construction environment
- Experience using project management systems and document management software
- Knowledge of contract administration and procurement processes
