AI Talent is currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Painter to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for applying paint, varnish, wallpaper, and other finishes to internal and external surfaces of buildings and structures. Your work will contribute to the protection, maintenance, and visual enhancement of various commercial and residential spaces. This position is ideal for someone with practical experience in surface preparation and finishing techniques, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to quality workmanship.
Registration or licensing may be required depending on the scope of work and location.
Responsibilities:
Erect scaffolding, ladders, and safety systems as required, and lay protective coverings to shield surrounding areas from paint splatter
Prepare surfaces by removing existing paint or wallpaper, repairing damaged woodwork, filling holes and cracks, and sanding or sealing surfaces to ensure proper adhesion
Mix paints and finishes to precise colour requirements, incorporating appropriate pigments, oils, and additives for durability and drying time
Apply paint, stains, varnishes, and protective coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment, ensuring even and clean coverage
Hang wallpaper, carefully aligning patterns and trimming edges to match design requirements
Clean and maintain painting equipment, tools, and work areas in accordance with safety and hygiene standards
May perform minor repair work such as fixing window frames and replacing broken glass in wooden or metal fixtures
Follow health and safety protocols and industry regulations while working at heights or in confined spaces
Collaborate with site managers, builders, and other tradespeople to ensure painting works are integrated into the broader construction or renovation timeline
Maintain accurate records of materials used, surfaces completed, and any issues encountered during the painting process
Qualifications and Skills:
Certificate III in Painting and Decorating, or equivalent qualification in line with ANZSCO Skill Level 3
At least 2 years of on-the-job training or demonstrated practical experience in painting and surface finishing
Strong knowledge of surface preparation techniques, paint types, application tools, and finishing methods
Familiarity with safety requirements related to scaffolding, ladders, ventilation, and handling hazardous substances
High level of attention to detail and an eye for colour, texture, and finish quality
Ability to follow plans, measurements, and specifications accurately
Excellent time management and organisational skills
Capability to work both independently and as part of a team
Physically fit and comfortable working at heights or in various site conditions
Registration or licensing may be required, depending on state or project regulations
