Primary objective

The Deputy Superintendent will manage operational commissioning of multiclassification infrastructure across adult correctional services

increasing the capacity and versatility of the correctional system in the provision of safe and secure correctional services in the Northern

Territory.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. As part of a commissioning team lead and manage the planning and execution of operational commissioning activities for

multiclassification infrastructure, which can include modification to existing infrastructure and development of new infrastructure

across the Northern Territory, utilising a project management approach and ensuring the needs of the Department are met.

  1. Ensure commissioned infrastructure is fit for purpose to operate in line with the intended operating model, safety and regulatory

standards and legislative requirements.

  1. Coordinate and undertake preparation of a facility and its staff for commencement of operation, including the procurement and storage

of equipment and supplies, implementation of onsite services, and coordination of staffing, their training and onboarding.

  1. Develop and manage internal and external stakeholder relationships, including the Department of Logistics and Infrastructure,

contractors and service delivery partners for coordinated delivery of projects within budget and required timeframes.

  1. Work in partnership with team members and identify and resolve in consultation with the commissioning team, line management and

delegations, issues and barriers to operational commissioning.

  1. Coordinate and undertake development of standard operating procedures and relevant policy for operation of the facility.

  2. Coordinate risk assessment, system testing and simulated operation of facilities prior to operationalisation.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Significant experience managing a diverse range of persons within a custodial environment.

2. Extensive and demonstrated experience in the management of change processes and the development, implementation and

monitoring of policies and procedures relevant to a custodial environment.

3. Demonstrated experience leading and undertaking discrete projects in a custodial environment.

4. Proven experience in the effective leadership and management of people and financial resources, and a demonstrated commitment to

5. Demonstrated sound knowledge of the principles that apply to sentence management, programs and services for persons within

custody.

6. Extensive working knowledge of the criminal justice system, management processes and a thorough understanding of contemporary

issues in relation to effective management within a custodial environment.

7. A high level of interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to build and sustain productive working relationships across

service streams, with internal and external stakeholders.

8. Advanced Diploma of Correctional Administration or other relevant qualification that is assessed as being equivalent, or alternatively

a qualification assessed as being acceptable to permit the applicant to be appointed for a fixed term subject to obtaining the Advanced

Diploma or other relevant qualification.

Further information

The position will require the successful applicate to work for short periods in regional towns/communities. The applicant must have a NT driver's

license and be able to travel by various means including light aircraft.

The preferred applicant/s will be required to complete a pre-employment questionnaire, and the successful applicant/s will be required to

undergo a criminal history check (confirmed by fingerprints and name check) prior to commencement of employment. An adverse criminal
