Do you have what it takes to become a Cyber Security Engineer?

We're looking for a skilled Cyber Security Engineer to join our team in Sydney CBD and help safeguard Smartgroup's technology landscape and information assets.

In this role, you'll be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining security systems that protect our infrastructure, applications, and data. You'll work closely with IT and our managed SOC team to ensure real-time threat detection, incident response, and continuous improvement of our security posture.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enhance our Security Incident and Event Management (SIEM) systems for real-time threat detection and response.
  • Configure and manage security tools including Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), Web Proxy, Email Security, and SIEM.
  • Drive remediation efforts aligned with vulnerability management policies to reduce risks across systems and applications.
  • Monitor the health and performance of security services to meet defined SLAs.
  • Tune SIEM alerts for improved threat detection accuracy.
  • Collaborate with our SOC team on incident response and threat hunting.
  • Develop and configure defensive measures to strengthen security controls.
  • Identify automation opportunities to streamline security operations.
  • Work with IT teams to ensure alignment on security control implementation.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of network infrastructure to proactively identify vulnerabilities.

About you

  • Experience in IT operations with a minimum 3 years in cyber security operations (incident response, threat management, vulnerability management).
  • Hands-on experience with SIEM platforms (e.g., Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk).
  • Strong troubleshooting and configuration skills across EDR (CrowdStrike, MS Defender), email security (MS365 Exchange, Mimecast), web proxies, and DLP tools (Varonis, Purview).
  • Familiarity with cloud security tools and services, especially Azure and Microsoft 365.
  • Knowledge of MITRE ATT&CK framework and its practical application.
  • Experience with SQL/KQL and security policy configuration.
  • Exposure to security frameworks (NIST CSF, ISO27001, ASD Essential Eight).
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or Cyber Security.
  • Cloud Security Certifications (Microsoft preferred).
  • Industry certifications such as CISSP or GIAC.
