Berrigan Shire is seeking a motivated and dependable team member to join our water and sewer team Dive into our dynamic team as Trainee Water and Sewer Operator We are looking for enthusiastic, energetic, responsible and friendly team member to make a meaningful impact to our water and sewer infrastructure services and on our community
Council's water and sewer infrastructure services are the main pillars of council services and make a significant impact to the community quality of life, providing social connection, enhancing service and confidence levels. Council is committed to a high-quality service for residents and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operations and Maintenance - Assist with the operation and maintenance of Council's water, sewerage and stormwater systems to a high standard.
- Testing and Reporting – Record results of any testing, actions taken, meter reads, and breakdowns.
- Emergency works - Attend to repairs, under the direction of the Water and Sewer Operator, of water treatment plant, water distribution system, sewer treatment plant, sewer retic system, sewer pump stations, rising mains, low pressure sewer systems and stormwater pump stations.
- Water Quality Monitoring – Monitor and ensure water quality conforms to Australian Drinking Water Guidelines, Drinking Water Management Systems, EPA and NSW Department of Planning Industry, NSW Health and Environment requirements.
What You'll Need:
- Class C Driver's Licence and ability to maintain
- A keen eye for safety, plant and tools operating skills
- Literacy and numeracy skills as appropriate to the position
- Ability to obtain – Certificate III in Water and Sewer Operation

This is a full-time 2-year traineeship position classified as Trainee under the Local Government (State) Award 2023. Conditions of employment include 12% superannuation and a 76-hour 9-day fortnight.
