Transport Workers' Union of Australia (South Australia / Northern Territory Branch)

OVERVIEW:

The Transport Workers' Union is one of the largest and most powerful unions in Australia and represents transport workers and those who work in connection to the transport industry. The TWU's South Australia / Northern Territory Branch is currently seeking an employee to work as an Organiser on a full-time ongoing basis. The position will be based out of Adelaide, with occasional travel.

As an Organiser, you will work within a larger team to: grow and strengthen TWU membership, provide industrial advice & assistance, provide WHS advice & assistance, develop delegates and HSRs and build activism and leadership amongst Union members.

It will be essential to have a strong belief in the vital role that the TWU plays and be committed to building and endorsing the TWU's values. It will be important to be able to work independently and in a team environment and to fully understand the importance of growing our Union.

THE ROLE:

  • Growing our Union
  • Building effective delegate and safety structures
  • Setting and executing workplans that reflect the Union's objectives
  • Meeting and engaging with members and workers at workplaces and locations around the South Australia
  • Negotiating and enforcing Enterprise Agreements
  • Supporting members with disputes and in disciplinary matters
  • Communicating the importance of TWU campaigns
  • Working closely with TWU officials in South Australia, Northern Territory and across the country
  • Mapping the industry according to campaign plans
  • Advocating on behalf of the Union and industry
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as directed by the Branch Secretary

KEY SKILLS REQUIRED FOR THE ROLE:

  • Commitment to the Union and its members
  • Capacity to grow the Union and build effective workplace structures
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Time management skills
  • Developed capacity to analyse agreements, awards and other industrial issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Practical experience working with a Union
  • A commitment to Labour values

The role will be based in Adelaide, and the successful candidate will represent members from around the South Australia. A competitive package is on offer to the successful candidate. The position is full time, and a commencing date will be subject to negotiation, with the strong ambition to start in 2025.
