Overview
Are you a systems thinker who can design at scale and simplify complexity for users? Do you hold a high bar for visual design, ensuring cohesion, consistency, and personality in every UX/UI pattern? Are you ready to lead initiatives with cross-functional teams and shape the future of administration experiences for the smallest startup to the largest enterprise? If so, Atlassian is looking for a
Principal Product Designer
to drive innovation and excellence in
Atlassian Administration
. This role will impact how administrators manage user accounts, app & data lifecycles, security, compliance, and more.

Atlassian Administration is core to the success of our platform and enterprise products. By joining this team, you'll help influence long-term architectural decisions and set the direction for seamless, cohesive user experiences. You'll also collaborate with a global network of over 600 designers, sharing best practices and contributing to a culture of design excellence.

Working at Atlassian
Atlassians can choose where they work – whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.

Responsibilities

  • Drive systems design thinking across Atlassian Administration, iterating on our conceptual model to simplify complex workflows and improve the consistency, scalability, and personality of UX/UI patterns.
  • Maintain a high visual design bar by crafting cohesive, visually engaging designs that balance function with form, using grids, layouts, and advanced compositions to create delightful user experiences.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with product managers, engineers, and designers to identify and solve customer pain points, aligning user needs with business priorities across Atlassian.
  • Coach and mentor junior and mid-level designers, offering actionable feedback and fostering growth in their craft and confidence in their contributions.
  • Translate product strategies into narratives with actionable goals, clearly communicating design intentions and ensuring alignment with team OKRs, customer outcomes, and broader organizational objectives.
  • Advocate inclusivity in all design work, championing standards and best practices across the organization.
  • Balance leadership and hands-on execution by driving your own strategic initiatives while ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality designs through other team members.
  • Use design research and data insights to inform and validate your work, setting up iterative testing processes to continuously refine and improve designs.

Qualifications
*To be successful in this role you will need to have some of the following;*

  • 12+ years of product design experience, with a focus on complex systems, enterprise SaaS, or scalable design solutions.
  • Deep expertise in systems design thinking, with a proven track record of creating and extending scalable design, models, patterns, and frameworks across organizational boundaries.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking skills; using research, data insights, and design thinking to drive user-centered outcomes.
  • Exceptional skill in employing storytelling and design to bring clarity to complex and abstract topics when communicating with stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of visual design principles, including grids, layout, typography, and composition, and the ability to create cohesive, visually engaging designs.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering teams to align design with architecture, informing technical decisions that enhance the user experience.
  • Proficiency in design tools like Figma and prototyping software, with the ability to co-design and iterate with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders across product, engineering, and design.
  • A track record of coaching and mentoring designers to raise craft quality and foster a growth mindset.
  • Familiarity with design systems, experience contributing to their evolution and scaling within a complex organization.
