Job Description

In this
Part Time/Full Time roles
, based in East Melbourne, you will be joining our growing lactation service at Epworth Freemasons and be responsible for providing quality care to women, their families and health professionals who seek advice and assistance with the establishment of lactation and breastfeeding management. You will be part of the Epworth Freemasons Maternity Services team and report to the Postnatal Nurse Unit Manager.

The Maternity Services department consists of 9 birth suites, 10 bed special care nursery, 34 bed postnatal unit and a 6-bed hospital in the Park Hyatt Hotel and currently accommodates approximately 3,000 births per annum.

You will make an impact by:

  • Delivering an exceptional mother, baby and family experience within the Postnatal Unit in accordance with Epworth HealthCare values
  • Preventing, recognise and solve breastfeeding challenges
  • Promoting excellence in clinical practice and family centred care
  • Promoting and supporting ongoing breastfeeding learning and education for all staff within the maternity unit
  • Acting as a resource for patients and staff
  • Managing the outpatient breastfeeding service provided by Epworth Freemasons

An excellent communicator and experienced clinical leader, you have an empathetic, supportive and engaging style that enables you to easily build rapport with the team, medical staff, patients and their families. You are highly accountable and place the patient at the heart of all your decisions. Flexibility in your thinking, patience and the ability to manage multiple priorities is vital to your success.

You will have

  • Current unrestricted nursing and midwifery registration with AHPRA
  • Hold an up to date International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) qualification
  • Experience with the unique feeding needs and capabilities of the sick or pre-term infant
  • Contemporary knowledge of best practice in maternity and newborn nursing care, lactation consultancy and the patient journey
