Assistant Trainer

Joseph and Jones Racing are a successful Thoroughbred Race Horse training business and have a position available for an Assistant Trainer at our Canberra stable. The position is full-time 38Hrs per week based on a 6 day working week. All applicants must have a minimum of 3 years full time professional experience in a similar role and be able to prove they are reliable workers with excellent horsemanship skills and referees are essential.

Essential Skills and Requirements:

• Have a Racing NSW approved rider license.
• General stable duties inc cleaning boxes and keeping stable complex clean.
• Supervising staff in their duties as well set up weekly rosters.
• Supervise horse feeding program to ensure optimum fitness and performance and ensuring supplies are ordered and maintained.
• Provide oral and written communication at a level to provide information to the trainers and their clients.
• Work in a team environment and independently when required.
• Travel with and care for the horses when travelling interstate.
• Represent the trainers at race meetings when requested.
• Educating and breaking in young horses.
• Ride slow and fast track work and provide feedback to the trainers.
• Educate our horses in barrier manners, jumpouts and barrier trials.
• Assist trainers with programming of our horses training and race programs.
• Assist the trainer's with equine welfare whilst the horses are in our care.
• Work along side our vets and assisting them with the care of our horses and updating the treatment records.
• Maintain and clean all tack and equipment.
• A vocational level of English to be able to communicate in the work place and understand instructions.
• Maintaining and enforcing WHS for the stable and staff.

Pay: $76,600.00 – $77,000.00 per year
