The Opportunity:

Urbis has an exciting opportunity for a Director to join our growing economics practice that will create more value for our clients, people and community. This role is open to candidates in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

As a director you will be part of the economics leadership team with other directors and associate directors to lead the ongoing profitable business growth and development of our national economics service offering.

You will be able to show case your leadership and management experience in supporting staff growth and development, through on-the-job coaching and mentoring, and strong people management and leadership skills.

You will:

Shape cities and communities by delivering evidence-based economic evaluations, insights and advice to governments for the benefit of community. Policy areas of focus will span housing, infrastructure, health, education, and human services. You will be expected to work across all levels of government, as well as collaboratively with business units at Urbis. You will:

  • Apply your economics expertise to policy formation and evaluation
  • Analyse the economic effects of policy changes and investments, and communicate them effectively as a professional economist
  • Develop innovative economic policy recommendations to complex problems in changing policy environments.
  • Generate new public sector work through activating and building on your existing your exiting network, engaging with and developing professional networks, and leading high-quality tenders and submissions, fee proposals and business development activity
  • Contributing to commercial outcomes through disciplined financial management of projects, and assisting with forecasting, budgeting and financial management at the business unit level.
  • Promote the relevance and purpose of policy economics and evaluation principles to Urbis' overall business development strategies and brand and reputation
  • Support a high-performance culture and growing our next generation of consultants, nurturing, and developing individual staff members through effective coaching and mentoring, and managing performance where required
  • Build relationships and identifying opportunities to work collaboratively with colleagues from other disciplines and business units across the broader firm on cross-disciplinary integrated projects

About You:

This position would suit someone who has a minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role, with economics and consulting background and a combination of the following competencies:

  • Bachelor or Master's degree of Economics or a similar field of study
  • Experience leading economic policy businesses in a professional services firm
  • Demonstrated advanced written and verbal communication skills including producing well written and insightful reports as well as confidence in presenting to internal and external clients
  • Experience in providing constructive and timely feedback to the team to try out new ideas and opportunities in support of their development
  • Exposure in applying advanced understanding of quantitative methods to all projects
  • Experience in producing well considered and articulated recommendations that are commercial in nature and practically grounded to address the needs of clients.
