Your role

Helicopters are critical to Army operations and it takes a lot more than a pilot to fly them. Whether it's aerial reconnaissance, troop mobility, casualty evacuation or firepower support, every helicopter mission relies on the skills of the Aviation Groundcrew team back at base.

Your duties include, but aren't limited to:

  • Preparing landing grounds and maintaining landing aid equipment
  • Marshalling, moving and securing aircraft
  • Preparing, loading and unloading supplies, equipment and ammunition
  • Managing and attaching external loads
  • Operating and maintaining towing equipment and other specialist vehicles
  • Refuelling aircraft when shut down ('cold') and running ('hot')

You'll also be trained in ground navigation, line communications with pilots, camouflage erection for temporary hangars, firefighting and first aid.

Location:

Following your initial military training, you could be posted to one of the many Army bases and units across Australia. The majority of these positions are in Brisbane, Oakey or Townsville, QLD; Darwin, NT; Sydney, NSW; or posted to a Navy vessel as a member of an Army detachment.

Salary:

Upon commencing training, your starting salary will be approximately $56,385 per annum plus 16.4% superannuation and your pay will increase as you progress through training.

On completion of your initial military training and initial employment training, you'll enjoy a package starting from $83,610 per annum.
