About Us

Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health service, which provides culturally appropriate, family centred, primary health care services to the communities and people of Cape York.

About the role

The Health Worker role is to perform a range of duties in the delivery of primary health care services. This position works as part of a multidisciplinary team to maximise health outcomes for the people of Cape York. This position is full time, fixed term until 30 June 2026.

This position is identified where, under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

• At least one (1) years' experience in a similar position assisting in the provision of primary health care.
• Knowledge of primary health care services, functions and practices, including knowledge of the social determinants that impact on health and wellbeing.
• Sound time management, numeracy, written and verbal communication skills.
• Sound interpersonal skills including the ability to build relationships and network with other services and health professions.
• Knowledge of confidentiality, ethics and duty of care in a primary health care environment.
• Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, particularly in Cape York.
• Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols and customs.
• Demonstrated understanding of the principles of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community control.
• Must be willing and have the ability to travel in Cape York either by light aircraft or 4WD as required.

Desirable

• Qualification in Community Services, Education, Mental Health or similar.
• Experience delivering primary health care services in remote Cape York communities.
• Experience within the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health sector.

Mandatory requirements:

• Certificate III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care or higher relevant qualification.
• Current Queensland Drivers Licence.
• Current Blue Card positive notice or exemption, or willing and able to obtain prior to commencement.
• Current AFP National Police Clearance or willing to obtain prior to commencement.
