About Us
Waves of Wellness (WOW) Foundation is a for-purpose mental health company dedicated to breaking down stigma and delivering recovery-focused, evidence-informed
surf therapy programs
for people experiencing mental ill-health. Delivered by clinicians who are also surfing instructors, our programs create social connection, functional recovery, and improved wellbeing in a welcoming, non-clinical environment.
About the Role
As a WOW Facilitator, you'll:
- Lead group discussions on mental health and wellbeing
- Support, supervise, and inspire volunteers
- Deliver trauma-informed, strength-based surf therapy to participants
- Foster a safe, fun, and supportive space for people to connect and grow
- Promote and represent WOW in the wider community
What You'll Do
- Facilitate small group sessions, drawing on lived experiences and storytelling
- Oversee day-to-day program administration
- Guide volunteers and uphold WOW's duty of care and risk management principles
- Promote and celebrate program achievements to partners, stakeholders, and the broader community
- Champion inclusion, diversity, and wellbeing for all
About You
Essential:
- Passion for surfing and the outdoors
- Relevant allied health qualification (OT, Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health Nursing, etc.) and professional registration and willingness to maintain
- Experience supporting people with mental health challenges, with knowledge of recovery, strength-based programming, and trauma-informed care
- Skilled in group facilitation, nurturing a safe, fun, and non-judgemental environment
- Ability to communicate with empathy and transparency, including appropriate self-disclosure
- High level of organisation and teamwork
- Understanding of confidentiality, risk, and client consent
- Current unrestricted driver's licence
- Willingness to undergo Police and Child Protection checks
Desirable:
- Surfing ability
- Experience supporting trauma-affected communities
- Strong connections to local community networks and resources
- Experience managing volunteers
