  • We are seeking a knowledgeable and crafty Cabinet Maker
  • Assist the School with maintaining buildings from 1 – 90 years old
  • 40 hours a week, with a rostered day off once a month

About the Role

The Cabinet Maker plays a key role in the construction, assembly, and installation of cabinetry and related components throughout the entire Canberra Grammar School (CGS) campus. This position is integral to ensuring that high-quality, custom-built furniture and fittings are delivered in a timely, efficient, and professional manner to meet the needs of a diverse range of learning and operational environments across the school.

Working as part of the Maintenance team, the Cabinet Maker will contribute to a variety of projects, ranging from the fabrication of bespoke furniture pieces to the repair, refurbishment, and replacement of existing cabinetry. The role demands precision, craftsmanship, and a strong commitment to safety and service.

In addition to core cabinet making responsibilities, the role also supports broader maintenance operations to help ensure the CGS campus is consistently well-presented, functional, physically secure, and compliant with relevant health, safety, and building regulations. This includes contributing to the upkeep of school grounds, assisting with general maintenance tasks, and working collaboratively with other team members to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all members of the CGS community—students, staff, and visitors alike.

About You

You are dedicated, passionate and possess the following:

  • Experience in carpentry, joinery and/or cabinet making is desirable
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual handling
  • Must be able to work at heights when required
  • Ability to work as part of a team and individually
  • Clear communication skills and a courteous professional manner
  • Previous maintenance and management experience of older buildings desirable
  • Carpentry or cabinet maker qualification and experience
  • Excellent written English and effective interpersonal communication skills
  • A valid Divers Licence
  • A valid White Card
  • First Aid training (or willingness to obtain this)

All team members at CGS are required to have:

  • Appropriate qualifications
  • A valid ACT Working with Vulnerable People Card
  • A current National Police Check
  • Full working rights within Australia.
