About the Business Unit:

System Governance is a business unit within the Courts, Civil and Criminal Law branch of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS).

There are two teams in System Governance:

  • Governance and Appointments - manages high priority judicial and board appointments within the Attorney-General's portfolio. This team also oversees strategic reviews and provides secretariat support to the Appeal Costs Board and the Judicial Entitlements Panel.
  • Honorary Justice Services Support (HJSS) - oversees Victoria's volunteer Honorary Justice program by providing operational, administrative and policy support to justices of the peace and bail justices (collectively known as honorary justices).

About the Role:

The Senior Policy Officer is responsible for providing authoritative governance and policy advice to justice system partners and departmental stakeholders. This role supports the development, implementation and continuous improvement of governance frameworks as well as the development of policy and governance advice relating to the Judicial Entitlements Act 2015. The role also delivers secretariat and policy support to the Appeal Costs Board and Judicial Entitlements Panel.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Managing the preparation and lodgement of cabinet and parliamentary documentation and the drafting of complex ministerial and other correspondence for the Attorney-General's portfolio
  • Developing and implementing policy proposals, programs and initiatives within the Attorney-General's portfolio
  • Providing considered and informed advice to management on key policy, performance and system reform issues.

About You:

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Throrough knowledge of and/or experience of policy development and implementation or associated field and/or knowledge of law
  • Sound knowledge of and/or experience in Victorian Government administrative processes and policy development
  • A wealth of knowledge of and/or experience in governance and financial or performance reporting.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification is highly desirable.
