About the Opportunity

Austal and the Commonwealth of Australia are currently negotiating a landmark Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA) that will support the Continuous Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Enterprise and the delivery of multiple new defence force shipbuilding projects, such as Landing Craft-Medium and Landing Craft-Heavy for the Australian Army.

Once signed, the SSA will drive significant growth across our industry and workforce, as we deliver both existing and new programs under a long-term partnership. It will also enable the design and construction of vessels at our Henderson shipyard and marks a major step forward in establishing enduring shipbuilding capability within the Henderson Defence Precinct and across Western Australia.

To achieve this, we are building a highly skilled team, to engage with local industry and supply chains, and work on complex, large-scale projects that reflect Austal's proven capabilities and trusted performance.

As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for the Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (RAM) function within the ILS discipline and manage engineering investigations to support RAM improvements of assets in-services maintaining technical integrity and cost effectiveness.

What's Involved

  • Conduct reliability investigations to identify deficiencies in existing mission and support system and/or to optimise asset reliability, availability, maintainability and safety.
  • Prepare and report on findings through the Engineering Investigation process.
  • Understand and, where necessary, develop and maintain reliability engineering processes and procedures.
  • Consolidated suite of RAM documentation held on BMS and followed.
  • Perform a variety of modelling and analysis that relates to the reliability, availability, maintainability and safety of systems. This includes Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM).
  • Prepare of Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis Reports (FMECAR) and Integrated Reliability, Maintainability, And Testability Program Report (IRMPTR).

You'll Need

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical, Electrical or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in reliability engineering.
  • Understanding of the Logistics Support Analysis (LSA) process.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills.

Highly Desirable

  • Experience in Defence major/mission systems, preferably Land or Maritime Systems.
  • Knowledge of ISO 55000 Asset Management.
  • Experience in Defence Contracting (ASDEFCON), including Requirements Traceability.
  • Experience or knowledge of document configuration management.
  • Baseline Security Clearance.
