The Department of Corrections (DoC) plays a vital role in the community and the criminal justice system to improve outcomes for offenders and the community. DoC has Three correctional centres, two work camps and over 1000 staff who have an extensive outreach to almost 80 communities in the NT.

We're looking for skilled and experienced leaders to fill the positions of Deputy Superintendent across the Territory.

As one of several Deputy Superintendents, your role will be dynamic, challenging and varied. You will form part of a team of professionals responsible for the safe, secure and humane management of prisoners. You will contribute to creating an environment that supports and enables prisoners to successfully reintegrate back into the community.

Your key duties include assisting the management team in the delivery of custodial operations within a multi-classification correctional environment and to work collaboratively to deliver all targets and service delivery standards as part of the Senior Management Team. You will contribute significantly to the strategic leadership, direction and management that ensures all statutory and departmental requirements are met, while promoting teamwork and cooperation within the team in order to achieve goals and meet performance and accountability standards.

The successful candidate is an effective and influential communicator, who demonstrates personal integrity with an ability to build productive relationships, and achieve results aligned to the department's strategic direction. You will be a leader who is flexible and adaptable to working across all our network.

As Deputy Superintendent, you will work with management in correctional centres and/or work camps to ensure an effective and efficient operation across management, programs and services.

DoC is looking for applicants who possess:

  • An advanced Diploma of Correctional Administration or other relevant qualification that is assessed as being equivalent

  • Significant experience in a correctional services environment

  • Strong interpersonal skills, high developed communication and effective working relationships with stakeholders

  • Working knowledge of the criminal justice system

  • Extensive experience managing Indigenous people and diverse cultural backgrounds

  • Resilience, integrity and problem-solving skills
