Are you an experienced maintenance all-rounder who takes pride in keeping properties safe, functional, and well cared for?
Join a values-based organisation that makes a genuine difference in the lives of others.
About the Role
The Maintenance / Handyperson plays a key role in ensuring the upkeep and presentation of the Sisters of Mercy Brisbane Congregation's properties — including shared living houses, the congregation office and holiday properties.
This hands-on role combines practical maintenance skills with sourcing quotes and the coordination of tradespeople and contractors. You'll also assist with planning and delivering larger maintenance and capital projects, ensuring all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with organisational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general maintenance, repairs, and upkeep across multiple properties (Predominately Brisbane, with some travel to holiday properties on the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast as required).
- Perform a range of tasks including carpentry, painting, basic plumbing, garden and grounds maintenance, and small-scale repairs.
- Source quotes, schedule contractors/trades, and oversee work to ensure quality, timeliness, and cost control.
- Coordinate and maintain records of maintenance, inspections, and compliance documentation.
- Support larger capital expenditure (CapEx) and property improvement projects.
- Ensure a safe working environment and adherence to workplace health and safety standards.
About You
You're a proactive, reliable person who enjoys variety in your day and working with purpose. You'll be comfortable working independently, liaising with contractors/trades, and engaging respectfully with a diverse group of people, including elderly residents.
You will bring:
- Hands-on maintenance and property care experience across residential or commercial sites.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook) for scheduling, record keeping, and communication.
- Experience coordinating tradespeople and maintenance projects.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A current QLD Driver's Licence and the ability to travel between sites.
- A commitment to maintaining privacy, confidentiality, and child safety requirements.
It would also be great if you have:
- A trade qualification (or equivalent experience).
- A current First Aid Certificate.
- Familiarity with faith-based or not-for-profit organisations.
