Youth Worker – SAY Program

Location: Tamworth

  • Permanent Part Time or Casual
  • Salary Packaging available – increase your take home pay
  • Three days extra leave over Christmas (depending on where the roster falls)

We are looking for Youth Workers that can support our "Safe Aboriginal Youth (SAY)" program. The services operate on a Friday and Saturday evenings and plays a crucial role helping our young people at risk of danger or anti-social behaviour. You work along side another Youth Worker coordinating the efforts. SAY is a community-based service that provides supervised activities and safe transport for Aboriginal Young People aged 12 to 18 years, helping them stay safe after dark. It is designed to divert young people away from harmful activities and reduce the likelihood of criminal involvement, while also reducing the risk of them becoming victims of crime.

Responsibilities

  • Be aware of or identify local community "hot spots" and place that youth participate in high risk or anti social behaviour
  • Transport or escort youth from public places to their homes or a safe place, refer them to local support services, or encourage them to attend safe structured activities
  • Provide youth in public places with street-based support services and information on local support services that may assist them with their needs
  • Provide a safe place where youth can attend and engage in recreational activities
  • Facilitate aged appropriate activities as alternative choices to risk taking behaviour

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Experience working with Youth
  • Ability to connect, collaborate, and be solutions driven with the youth
  • Understanding of child protection requirements
  • Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • National Criminal Record Check (NCRC)
  • Understanding of and commitment to use of data for quality improvement
  • A valid unrestricted NSW Driver's Licence
  • Lived Lived experience and understanding of key issues affecting Aboriginal Youth and Families
