The Opportunity

Join a highly experienced international team of Secondary and Protection engineering specialists in this leadership role, supporting the renewable energy transition through the delivery of projects across Australia and New Zealand. Together you will be designing and delivering critical Power Secondary and Protection related projects that differ in scale, scope, geography and client types. The complexity and variety of projects you will be working on will enable you to develop and grow your Secondary and Protection engineering and design abilities, developing your technical expertise by learning from some of the industry's leading Power engineers, designers and technical leaders.

Key role components include:

  • Completing detailed design and implementation of protection and controls systems for distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission substations for high Voltage (HV 220kV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV 500 kV) projects.
  • Conduct fault studies using industry-standard software to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Lead teams of engineers on larger work packages including coaching, mentorship and supporting training on-the-job of the next generation of Power engineers.
  • Deliver concept and detailed designs, reviewing secondary and protection schemes from high-level R&I diagrams through detailed schematics and protection settings.
  • Provide technical advice working with clients to provide project scoping, design and delivery, aligned to their requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative design standards while performing quality checks to maintain high standards of delivery.

About You

Your Secondary and Protection design engineering expertise is built on solid fundamentals and demonstrated through the successful delivery of complex power engineering projects. You will bring extensive experience in electricity transmission and distribution projects, with advanced expertise in secondary and protection design. You will have a deep understanding of HV power designs and comprehensive experience with modern protection relay technology, substation automation systems, and their application through to project commissioning.

As a Senior Engineer, you are experienced in leading teams and have a passion for coaching and mentoring emerging engineers to help them grow professionally.

You build effective stakeholder relationships and use excellent people and communication skills to clearly explain complex technical issues to both internal and external stakeholders. You will also be looking to grow and develop your technical abilities, leveraging Beca's development, support and mentoring from technical experts. You will be motivated to learn and grow within a team, managing multiple tasks with enthusiasm and a focus on outcomes with an ability to think creatively and solve challenging problems.

A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical subject will be required for this role. In addition, you will be working towards, or have met, the Registered Professional Engineering or Chartered Professional Engineer. Experience working in a engineering consultancy environment is advantageous for this role, however not essential.
