The hospital encompasses 185 beds, 6 operating theatres, 10 bed ICU, with associated rehabilitation, medical and surgical Wards. Our services include two major medical centres, a dedicated mental health unit, an on-site cancer centre including radiation oncology, radiology practice and pathology laboratory. Your new role as Perioperative Services Manager:

The Perioperative Services Manager (PSM) is a key leadership position within the hospital's management team, reporting directly to the Director of Clinical Services (DCS) and CEO. The PSM is responsible for the strategic and operational direction of all activities within the operating theatre complex including oversight of operating theatres, day surgery, recovery, sterilising services, and associated clinical support areas. The PSM provides strong clinical and operational leadership to ensure the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of perioperative services, supporting excellence in patient care and positive surgical outcomes.

A central responsibility of the role is to lead, manage, and develop a multidisciplinary team of nurses, technicians, and support staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. The PSM is expected to ensure compliance with all relevant standards, policies, and accreditation requirements, while implementing evidence-based best practices. Effective workforce planning, recruitment, education, and performance management are integral components of the position. The role also involves active participation in hospital-wide planning and decision-making, working closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and other stakeholders to optimise theatre utilisation, enhance service efficiency, and support the growth of surgical specialties. Strong financial and resource management skills are essential, with responsibility for budgeting, equipment procurement, and cost control.

The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced leadership capabilities, excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, and a proven ability to drive quality improvement and innovation in a dynamic clinical environment. The PSM plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of perioperative services, ensuring the hospital delivers safe, patient-centred, and high-performing surgical care.

About you (essential criteria):

  • Current unrestricted AHPRA Registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1), General
  • Minimum 5 years perioperative clinical experience
  • Minimum 3 years management experience in the perioperative environment
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with proven ability to manage and guide teams
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications in perioperative nursing
  • Sound understanding of the private health system in Australia, including funding models VMO expectations
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of perioperative nursing best practice including ACORN Standards, ANZCA guidelines, ASNZ5369 and NSW Health Policy Directives
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development
  • Sound understanding of clinical governance as relevant to perioperative services and hospital management
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing quality improvement initiatives, clinical policies and accreditation programs relating to ACHS clinical standards
  • Strong collaborative interpersonal skills with well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills in relevant hospital management programs as well as Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Outlook
  • Immunisation evidence and serology report in accordance with NSW Health.
  • Australian permanent resident status or equivalent work rights required.
  • Current Working with Children Check and Police Check.

Desirable attributes:

  • Post-graduate management qualification
  • Previous experience relieving Nursing Unit Manager / PSM roles
  • Demonstrated experience in the instrument / circulating nurse roles and or anaesthetic and PACU nursing roles
