Safety Risk Engineering Adviser (ANSTO – Lucas Heights)
Working in the safety systems and reliability team (SSR), you will be providing safety engineering and risk analysis expertise across operating facilities and capital projects.
You will be leading hazard identification workshops, applying and extending current risk and reliability techniques with sound technical advice to ensure that services delivered are in line with regulatory compliance and safety standards.

What you'll be doing:
- Independently conduct safety assessments of facilities, processes, plant, equipment, and experiments utilising technical and analytical skills and expertise in applied hazard and risk assessment (semi-quantitative assessments).
- Lead small to medium cross functional safety and reliability services or capital projects of the complex or novel nature.
- Assist with the development and implementation of ANSTO's Safety Management System to ensure quality standards established and maintained to communicate changing licencing and regulation requirements.
- Provide technical expertise to safety assessments and advice on proposed changes to plant, equipment and systems within ANSTO.
- Provide subject matter expertise in developing safety documentation that meets the needs of the Client, internal Safety Assurance process and external regulatory authorities (ARPANSA, Comcare).

- Conduct safety assessments, with support and guidance from senior officers, of operating facilities, processes, and systems; utilising technical and analytical skills and tools in applied hazard and risk assessments.
- Participate in small to medium cross functional safety and reliability service projects or projects of a complex or novel nature under the supervision of a senior professional.
- Assist with the development and implementation of ANSTO's Safety Management System to ensure quality standards are established and maintained and to communicate changing licensing and regulation requirements.
- Identify and develop technical solutions to safety and reliability situations.
- Evaluate and respond to technical report submissions to the Safety Assurance team, as required.

- Utilise knowledge and technical expertise to provide systems safety analysis and advice on proposed changes to systems within ANSTO and proposed solutions to engineering systems;
- Develop and review safety documentation that meets the needs of the client and external regulatory authorities (ARPANSA, Comcare) and for submission to the Safety Assurance team.;
- Communicate effectively with customers and other stakeholders ensuring clarity, accuracy of information and confidentiality requirement whilst ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction;
Selection criteria:
- Engineering degree qualifications (Process/Chemical, Electrical or Instrument and Controls preferred)
- Experience with hazard identification methods (FMEA, HAZOP, FTA, LOPA)
- Proven experience in facilitating HAZOP, HAZID, FMEA workshops and development of minutes, reports and assessments.
- Demonstrated ability in leading assignments using methodologies and available modelling risk tools to deliver quality and fit-for-purpose outcomes
- Experience in stakeholder and customer management
- Strong writing, computer and analytical skills
- Functional Safety, and expert knowledge of systems, safety and reliability in the nuclear and radiological industry would be highly desirable.
