Yulu-Burri-Ba is currently seeking a passionate Social Health Clinician – Perinatal & Parenting to join its Jajum Bajara program full-time

Yulu Burri Ba's Jajum Bajara, Birthing in Our Community (BiOC), program aims to support women, infants and families, from preconception and early pregnancy through to early childhood (up to three years of age), to enhance family functioning and promote childhood development and parental wellbeing.

The team is embedded within a Primary Health Care Clinic that provides a comprehensive range of primary and specialist care services. This role works actively with these other disciplines to ensure that the needs of clients are met in a truly holistic way.

It is a genuine occupational requirement, under Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, Section 25 that this role be filled by a woman.

*Please note: To be appointed to this position, you must have:

  • Current registration with AHPRA or a current Blue Card Working with Children Check (Paid Blue Card).
  • Current "C" Class Driver's Licence Valid in Queensland.
  • Proof of immunisation record (Immunisation History Statement) – or willingness to obtain as a matter of priority.
  • Eligibility for a Medicare provider number.

About the Position

As a Social Health Clinician – Perinatal & Parenting in the Jajum Bajara program you will develop, implement and support specialist early intervention, parenting and related services for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander families.

General Responsibilities

  • Work with pregnant women, parents and caregivers to enhance their capacity to develop healthy and secure relationships with their child/ren
  • Identify and support women and families impacted by trauma
  • Case manage complex families through integration and linkages into other appropriate supports and services.
  • Apply professional knowledge and skills in clinical decision-making commensurate with level of clinical expertise
  • Participate in the provision and review of best clinical practices, including case conferencing with all relevant parties, contribute to client assessment, treatment planning and therapeutic intervention, team meetings, clinical review meetings and use of outcome measures with clients
  • Work flexibly in response to client and family needs.
  • Conduct home visits or community visits, where appropriate.
  • Work individually and in groups to enhance parenting capacity.
  • Develop and maintain effective collaborative partnerships and strategic alliances with key external stakeholders, in particular other service providers, suppliers, and Government departments to optimize the opportunity for resource allocation that will enhance the existing services.
  • Actively maintain knowledge of the application of the MBS relevant to your job role and ensure information about completed MBS items is effectively captured for accurate processing of claims
  • Maximise Medicare Billings through effective clinic and records processes
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive client files, which include documentation relating to assessment, treatment planning, therapeutic interventions and outcome measurement.
  • Ensure maintenance and confidentiality of client health records.

Selection Criteria Essential

  • Ability to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, their leaders and health professionals, while respecting traditional culture, values and ways of doing business.
  • Ability to effectively identify psychosocial factors influencing pregnancy and parenting and provide support and/or referral to specialist services.
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating positive behaviour change with individuals, families and community groups.
  • Understanding of both protective factors and challenges facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in SE QLD
  • From time to time after hours work may be required for client support and care, all reasonable efforts will be made to ensure that any afterhours work is planned in advance - any request for afterhours work is optional, however if after hours work is conducted an Additional Hours Payment Form will be completed and any relevant penalty rates will be applied

Qualifications/Experience
For APHRA registered Clinicians:

  • Relevant bachelor's degree qualification
  • Current AHRPA registration

For non-AHPRA Clinicians:

  • Relevant bachelor's degree qualification with appropriate membership (ACA, AASW Etc.)
  • Current Blue Card
