Key Responsibilities:
- Trust Accounting: Take full ownership of managing and maintaining Trust Accounts in strict compliance with the Legal Profession Uniform Law (Trust Accounts), ensuring accurate and timely reconciliations, balancing, and reporting.
- Bank Reconciliation: Perform regular office bank reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and resolution of any discrepancies between bank statements and accounting records.
- Accounts Payable: Process and manage accounts payable, ensuring all invoices are accurately recorded, authorised, and paid within agreed terms.
- Accounts Receivable: Oversee accounts receivable, ensuring accurate invoicing, timely collections, and follow-up on outstanding payments.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with Australian accounting standards.
- Audit Support: Assist with the preparation and coordination of internal and external audits, particularly in relation to Trust Accounts and financial transactions.
- BAS: Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS) and ensure compliance with Australian tax laws.
- Staff Reimbursement & Expenses: Process staff reimbursements and office expenses in accordance with firm policies, ensuring all claims are accurate and compliant with relevant guidelines.
- Cash Flow Management: Support budgeting, cash flow management, and financial planning to ensure the firm's financial health.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all financial transactions across Trust Accounts, office accounts, and related activities.
Key Requirements:
- 2-3 years of experience in a Legal Accounts & Bookkeeping role, with a strong focus on Trust Accounting.
- In-depth knowledge of Trust Account management and compliance with the Legal Profession Uniform Law (Trust Accounts).
- Strong experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable, with a demonstrated ability to handle both effectively.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Xero) and MS Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and compliance in financial reporting.
- Strong understanding of Australian tax laws and the preparation of BAS would be beneficial.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of Australian legal industry accounting regulations is highly advantageous.
