About the role

Official Visitors work to resolve enquiries and complaints made by inmates and assist in monitoring the conditions and treatment of inmates in custodial centres throughout New South Wales (NSW). Official Visitors are community-based appointments made by the Minister for Corrections.

  • Record and report on complaints, enquiries, and the general custodial environment.
  • Facilitate the resolution of issues at the local level where possible.
  • Submit reports to the Minister, Inspector of Custodial Services, and relevant authorities.
  • Maintain independence, objectivity, and confidentiality at all times.

  • Cultural awareness, particularly in working with Aboriginal people and people from diverse backgrounds.
  • The ability to remain impartial and act with integrity.
  • Basic computer literacy and access to email/internet.

Additional Information

  • Applications are invited for appointments to centres in the Sydney region and across New South Wales.
  • Suitable candidates may be added to a talent pool to fill any appointments that may become vacant over the next 18 months.
