We are seeking an experienced and visionary Project Engineering Manager - Space Domain to lead the technical development, delivery, and growth of Saab's Space capabilities in alignment with organisational and customer needs.

The opportunity

The Project Engineering Manager - Space Domain will play a pivotal role in establishing, leading, and delivering Space-related technical capabilities and projects. This includes driving engineering excellence, managing multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring that agile and rigorous engineering methodologies are applied to achieve successful outcomes.

You will balance strategic leadership with hands-on technical management, engaging directly with customers, internal stakeholders, and global partners to develop innovative and sustainable solutions in the Space domain.

As part of your specific responsibilities, you will:

  • Provide technical leadership and management to projects delivering Space-related capabilities.
  • Lead the growth and coordination of Saab's Space technical capability and support the capture of new business opportunities.
  • Engage with global Saab colleagues, Defence, Government, and industry partners to promote and deliver Space technologies.
  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure projects meet scope, quality, and schedule commitments.
  • Drive system design, verification, validation, and integration activities aligned with customer and legislative requirements.
  • Develop and execute engineering strategies that foster innovation, technical excellence, and sustainable growth.
  • Contribute to broader Saab Australia initiatives in adjacent technical domains as required.
About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Significant experience in the delivery of complex, software-intensive systems within Defence, Space, or similarly regulated industries.
  • Proven experience in productisation of emerging technologies, with strong understanding of system lifecycle management.
  • Deep expertise in systems engineering, particularly within ASDEFCON or equivalent Defence frameworks.
  • Strong background in agile technical delivery, balancing innovation with disciplined engineering management.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and fostering collaboration, capability growth, and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with experience liaising directly with customers and external partners.
  • A strategic mindset, with the ability to navigate complex technical and organisational challenges.

Qualification:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline (Bachelor's or Master's degree).
  • Professional certification (e.g., CPEng, INCOSE ASEP/CSEP/ESEP) is highly desirable.

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
