Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities. In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns and operates the Hidden Valley mine and owns 50% of the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. Harmony owns 100% of the Eva Copper project, a near-term copper project in Queensland, Australia. These assets are supported by the Harmony Australasia regional corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.
This role will be offered as a FIFO opportunity from/to Australia working on a 16/12 day roster.
Reporting to the Mobile Fleet Maintenance Manager, the MFM Principal will oversee the maintenance and repair operations of the mining mobile fleet at Hidden Valley Mine. Your primary focus will be ensuring strict compliance with Health, Safety, Environment, and Community standards among both employees and contractors. The role involves developing and implementing maintenance strategies that promote safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations, fully aligned with the company's standards, programs, and policies. As a key leadership position, it requires excellent communication skills, a solid understanding of mining mobile fleet operations, and a commitment to talent development to support the company's operational and business objectives.
As MFM Principal, the key responsibilities of this role include:
- Showing commitment to build relationships for open communication with operations management to maximise production achievements.
- Working with the Maintenance Team to ensure Safety KPI targets are achieved. Provide all necessary internal and external reports on safety and environmental compliance, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Supporting and driving the planning, execution, and monitoring of maintenance activities on the mobile fleet, ensuring alignment with the company's annual budget and Life of Mine (LOM) plan.
- Assisting in development of mobile fleet department annual budget aligning to LOM plan and asset management strategy.
- Overseeing maintenance expenditure and manage maintenance budget, ensuring costs are controlled and aligned with financial objectives.
- Attending regular area Maintenance Meetings to review equipment performance, develop remedial actions as required and develop improvement plans for cost and reliability.
- Providing guidance direction and coaching to the maintenance personnel and provide opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Monitoring costs to stay within budget restraints on all equipment maintenance activities, including but not limited to external/internal labour costs.
- Identifying cost saving initiatives while maintaining equipment availability and reliability standards.
- Participating in departmental decision-making, whilst ensuring that employees are empowered to make decisions on issues within their competency. Monitor decision quality, checking for adherence to policies and standards, and coaching for improvement.
- Providing accurate analysis of maintenance and operating performance of the fleet leading to timely decision making to maintain performance at or above greed levels.
- Assisting in the ongoing development and compliance of the departmental, particularly in his/her area of influence, as well as company objectives and strategic plans.
- Carrying out duties in accordance as most senior individual in MFM in the absence of the MFM Manager.
About You:
You must be a highly experienced professional who is self-motivated and able to work efficiently and collaboratively in a team environment holding the following qualifications and experience:
- Ten years' experience in large scale open pit mining including senior supervisory and management roles.
- Trade qualification or tertiary qualification in Engineering / Maintenance Management.
- Incident reporting experience.
- Planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient experience using MS Excel, Word and Project.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills.
