the OVERVIEW

The primary purpose of this position is to provide high-quality coaching and training for all players in the team, with the intention of preparing players for relevant competitions/tournaments and conducting appropriate quality football activities that will enhance the players' experience with the Club, combined with creating a fair and inclusive environment.

The Bill Brackenbury Premier League (BBPL) is the highest division of Senior Men in the Football Canterbury Football Association which plays during the winter season on Saturdays (mostly).

Per the Constitution, the Head Coach – Men's Premier League is approved by the Executive Committee and has sole responsibility for coaching the BBC team and must operate in the best interest of the Club. Ultimately the Head Coach – Men's Premier League is responsible to their team and the members of the Club. This position is appointed for the term of the season, at which time assessment of ongoing appointment to the role will be undertaken by the Committee.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and conduct scheduled training and trial sessions, including the evaluation and co-selection of players used to determine playing positions.
  • Be available and prepare thoroughly for Match Day, demonstrating improvements of players and team performance throughout the season.
  • Provide feedback to players based on their performance and participation.
  • Establishing and implementing training techniques in line with Club expectations.
  • Support a positive Club coaching culture and enjoyable player experiences.
  • Ensure the preservation of player and member welfare in all circumstances.
  • Liaise with Club Administrators and Key Volunteers.
  • Select and remove players from the team based on participation, performance, and demonstration of the Club's Values.
  • Secure suitable "stand-in" coach when the coach is unable to attend a game/training.
  • Maintain effective communication with the Technical Director, Team Manager, and the Club Committee regarding team performance and concerns.
  • Be ultimately responsible for the team, as well as its associates, regarding the enforcement of all Club and team policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of Football Canterbury and Football NSW (Repeated conduct issues or violations of the Code of Conduct should be reported to the Club Committee).
  • Lead by example and assist with the building of the Club culture and community.
  • Coordinate and lead the pathway teams (U18 & U21) coaches to organise grading
  • Identify and progress players into the BBPL team through training with the BBPL
  • Work with the club administrators and volunteers to promote the development and the pathway for BDFC players into the Men's Premier League team in the future.
  • Set and ensure delivery of the general principles of the "senior pathways" (U18, U21, BBPL) to be followed through all the way through
  • Opportunity for extra paid work through coordination of extra programs delivered by the club. (Optional)

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Hold a current paid "Working with Children" Check.
  • Current Football Australia coaching accreditation (minimum Game Training/Senior Coaching Certificate). C Licence and above preferable.
  • Minimum 3 years coaching experience.
  • Experience coaching at Community Men's Premier League level (desired)
  • An understanding of quality coaching behaviours required for adults.
  • Highly developed leadership skills and professional approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and relate to players.
  • Demonstrated football organisational skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Must always be a good ambassador/role model for the Club.
  • Positive and approachable personality.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • The estimated time commitment required as the Head Coach – Men's Premier League is approximately 6-8 hours per week (time includes training, games and organisation of team) between November 2025 and August 2026.
  • Conduct 2-3 trial sessions for team selection (Nov/Dec)
  • Conduct two (2) training session per week (Feb-Aug
  • For BBPL players - 1 mandatory and 1 optional in conjunction with the U18 & U21 teams
  • Coach team game on the weekend (and midweek for catch-up games).
  • Organise pre-season opponents (2-4 matches)

RENUMERATION

This is a paid role within the club based on the level of experience and accreditation of the right candidate.
