About The Role
The Civil Operations Unit is currently seeking multiple Leading Hands to join the Road Network team and support the delivery of high-quality civil maintenance services across the City of Ballarat.

As a Leading Hand – Road Network, you will supervise and work within a cohesive operational team responsible for maintaining sealed roads, bridges, signage, and line marking. Your role will involve a variety of civil construction and infrastructure maintenance tasks—primarily within the road's environment, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

This position is based at the Trewin Street depot in Wendouree, with travel across the municipality to service the City of Ballarat area. You'll enjoy the benefit of a 9-day fortnight, including a regular rostered day off (RDO), supporting a healthy work-life balance.

In addition to leading daily operations, you'll support the Supervisor Road Network, operate plant and equipment, maintain accurate records, and contribute to a customer-focused and safety-conscious work environment. You'll also work collaboratively across other areas of Civil Operations, including pathways, drainage, and unsealed roads, as needed.

About You
To thrive in this role, you'll bring a combination of practical experience, teamwork, and a strong safety mindset. Specifically, you will have:

• Proven experience in civil construction, road maintenance, landscaping, or concrete works
• Competence in safely operating a variety of plant and equipment used in road construction and maintenance
• The ability to manage a safe, organised, and efficient worksite
• Strong communication skills with a focus on delivering excellent customer service
• A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a team

Key Selection Criteria

• Certificate level or equivalent qualifications or equivalent practical experience in a civil maintenance environment.
• Demonstrated ability to champion, model and promote corporate values.
• Demonstrated ability to implement and monitor adherence to health and safety policies and procedures within a team environment
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills for dealing with staff, contractors, community, and the preparation of quote and business plans.
• Experience leading a team or crew in a Civil maintenance environment.
