Primary objective

Responsible for the delivery of high-quality mental health service to children and young people with serious emotional and behavioural

difficulties, including mental health assessment and evidence-based interventions in a culturally responsive manner.

Context statement

The Aboriginal Health Practitioner classification level AHP4 is an experienced and senior practitioner who is able to work autonomously,

understands the health system and organisation and is able to manage programs; professional capabilities to deal with complex situations;

and the ability to manage primary health care programs within a holistic model focussed on improving outcomes for Aboriginal clients.

This position will be located within the Mental Health Services in Tennant Creek

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide Leadership to the health care team and community on the provision of a holistic mental health care service in a local to build

both cultural and acute competence.

2. Manage mental healthcare program/s within the community and contribute to larger Primary Health Care initiatives.

3. Participate as a senior member of a multi-disciplinary management team in the development, implementation and review of mental

health care and case management plans to ensure provision of a consistent and agreed approach to mental health care.

4. Provide clinical supervision, mentoring, and support to Aboriginal Health Practitioners to develop their skills, knowledge and

professional capabilities.

  1. Engage with community members to strengthen community involvement in mental health service delivery.
  2. Contribute to the development of contemporary models of care within Mental Health Central Australia.
  3. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces

8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour

Selection Criteria

Essential

1. Current registration with Ahpra as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner with no conditions.

2. Minimum AQF level 6 as per NTPS Aboriginal Health Practitioner Enterprise Agreement and/or signed learning agreement

demonstrating a commitment to achieve this.

3. Demonstrated experience providing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care practice within a remote and isolated

community as an advanced practitioner.

4. Proven organisational skills and ability to coordinate and manage programs

  1. Demonstrated local cultural knowledge, respect and safety at the community level.

  2. Must be able to provide confirmation of Aboriginality; obtain a criminal history check and clearance; and working with children's

clearance (Ochre card).

Desirable

1. Current NT driver's licence, or the willingness and or ability to obtain.
