Line Managment: Responsible to the Head of Junior School and ultimately to the Principal
Terms
A Leadership Allowance (Level 2) will be paid, commensurate with the responsibility of the position. The position attracts 0.2 release time, above the normal release time. It is expected that the teaching allocation will be within the Enrichment team.
The seniority of the position necessitates that the incumbent may be required to be present on the campus before and beyond the regular timetabled day and sometimes during non-term time. This position also has an after-hours component
Duties and Responsibilities
The Leader of Inclusion is responsible for ensuring best practice for Junior School students who have specific learning needs, including students with disabilities, imputed or diagnosed. They are responsible for ensuring that students are identified and personal plans are created, implemented and reviewed as needed. They are a key liaison with parents and work closely with staff across the Junior School. The role includes working directly with students at times. The Leader of Inclusion supervises the Enrichment staff in the Junior School.
Working Relationships
The Leader of Inclusion is supervised by the Head of Junior School. They work with the Deputy Principals (Learning and Teaching & Wellbeing) and are part of the Enrichment team. They work closely with the Junior School Management team to ensure the needs of students in the Junior School are met.
Position Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with staff to identify students requiring support through adjustments, modified programs or Personalised Plans (PPs).
- Manage the development of adjustments, modified programs and PPs in collaboration with all stakeholders, including staff, parents, external providers and the student.
- Manage and support individual students or groups of students identified, including students with disabilities, students with learning difficulties, students with complex needs including mental health.
- Work collaboratively with staff managing students to ensure adjustments and supports are realised.
- Manage transitions of students with specific learning needs into the Junior School, and to the Middle School.
- Manage NCCD identification and documentation processes.
- Supporting teaching staff in planning adjustment and modifications to curriculum, assessment and pedagogy.
- Be an active member of the Learning and Teaching Committee and Whole School Enrichment Team to plan and discuss delivery of appropriate and consistent enrichment programs across the school.
- Oversight of Early Intervention Programs, including literacy and numeracy programs, to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Create and manage the timetable of Enrichment staff across the Junior School.
Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will:
- Hold either a degree in Special Education with experience in delivering integrated learning support, or a Primary school teaching degree with experience and expertise in the delivery of differentiated support.
- Have a deep understanding of the Disability Discrimination Act, Education Standards and the NCCD.
- Have experience in supporting students with complex needs, including mental health
- Have a knowledge of early intervention programs, and experience in researching and recommending new programs
- Have a strong desire to personalise learning to ensure all young people have the opportunity to achieve growth and experience success
- Demonstrate effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, able to guide, mentor and develop colleague's practice
- Experience in using a range of learning data to guide best practice in learning and teaching
- Demonstrate skill and understanding in differentiating the curriculum to meet a wide range of learning needs
- Demonstrate experience and expertise in developing and implementing learning support programs
- Collaborate effectively with teaching colleagues across the school
- Contribute effectively to curriculum development across the school
- Contribute to the wider life of the school through the co-curricular program
Terms and Conditions
The successful applicant will be employed under the Independent School (Teachers) Multi Enterprise Agreement 2025.
