About the role

RSPCA Queensland is seeking a casual Browse and Plantation Officer with a strong passion for Australia's native flora and a commitment to wildlife welfare. This hands-on role supports the health of native animals, particularly koalas, by sourcing and delivering high-quality browse material. It involves outdoor work across varied climates and driving in challenging weather conditions throughout Greater Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and the Sunshine Coast.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely drive an RSPCA Qld vehicle throughout the Greater Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast regions to collect and transport leaf and other essential supplies to the Wacol or Eumundi Wildlife Clinics.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organised environment at the hospital, including sweeping and mopping floors, removing waste and ensuring animal food and water bowls are cleaned and replenished.
  • Collaborate with RSPCA Wildlife Hospital staff and volunteers to support day-to-day operations.
  • Contribute to the care of native wildlife, which may include Koala husbandry.
  • Perform general ground maintenance to ensure the clinic's facilities are well-maintained and safe.

Who are we looking for?

  • Proven experience in leaf cutting and broad horticultural expertise, including orchard and plantation maintenance, landscaping, garden care, arboriculture, revegetation, fertilizer application and irrigation systems.
  • A manual open driver's licence is essential.
  • The ability to lift 10kg and comfortable working in diverse outdoor environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Capable of working independently while also thriving in a team setting.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing tasks and work environments.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A genuine passion for animal welfare and a commitment to supporting the RSPCA Qld's mission and long-term goals.
